TikTok Shop bans fictitious listings and joke videos: AI check
TikTok Shop's March 25, 2026 policy bans fictitious listings and joke or meme content. How to keep AI product videos on the right side of it.

TikTok Shop's policy updates list a March 25, 2026 entry that prohibits fictitious listings and bans content created as jokes or memes, so an AI video that shows a product you do not sell, or a comedy skit with a product link, is on the wrong side of it. The entry is on the Seller University page Latest Policy Updates, marked deprecated and last updated 25 Jun 2026, read 2026-10-02.
The page gives only a short summary of each entry. Read the full policy in your market's Seller University before acting; this post covers what the summary says and where Sume's tools help.
What else was listed in spring 2026?
Three entries on the page relate to video.
| Date | Entry |
|---|---|
| March 2026 | Sexually suggestive content in product promotions prohibited; may mean livestream interruption and product removal |
| March 25, 2026 | Fictitious listings prohibited; joke or meme content banned |
| March 30, 2026 | 5 or more non-interactive or misleading videos in 7 days triggers a 7-video limit |
| April 24, 2026 | Enforcement against non-interactive content stepped up |
Why does AI video raise the risk?
Image-to-video tools can animate a product photo into scenes the real item never appears in, and generated text-to-video can invent an item altogether. TikTok's AI content page separately forbids altering size, color, material, quantity or features. A fictitious-listing check is the same question from the listing side: does the thing on screen exist and ship?
What can I do in the file?
Keep the real product recognisable in every second. Use a real product photo as the reference, keep scenes plausible, and review the output before publishing. If a clip contains speech about the product, burn captions with POST /v1/video-captions so the claims are visible and reviewable ($0.20 per job up to 60 seconds); caption_no_speech fails silent clips, for which authored cues are the path.
Sume does not verify that a listing exists, check your catalog, or screen for humour. It also cannot tell whether TikTok will read a clip as a meme.
Who decides?
TikTok does. The page does not define a test for jokes beyond the headline, so when in doubt, drop the skit framing from product-linked videos and keep joke content on a post with no Shop link.
