US federal holidays Nov 2026 to Jan 2027: one closed-notice clip each
OPM lists five federal holidays from Nov 2026 to Jan 2027. Build one closed-notice clip per date with Sume caption cues, with the payloads generated in Python.

Between November 2026 and January 2027 the US federal holiday calendar has five dates: Veterans Day on Wednesday 11 November, Thanksgiving on Thursday 26 November, Christmas Day on Friday 25 December, New Year's Day on Friday 1 January 2027, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday 18 January 2027. If your bank-facing, courier-facing or government-facing customers expect you to be closed, one short closed-notice clip per date is enough, and Sume can burn the date onto a single reusable background clip as caption cues.
The dates come from the US Office of Personnel Management page, read on 2026-10-12. The page covers federal employees, so whether your business closes on a date is your own decision. The clip should say what you decided.
Which dates fall on which weekday?
Weekday matters for the wording: a Friday closure makes a long weekend, and a Monday one does too, while Wednesday and Thursday closures sit mid-week.
| Date | Weekday | Holiday | Notice wording to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-11-11 | Wednesday | Veterans Day | Closed Wednesday, open Thursday |
| 2026-11-26 | Thursday | Thanksgiving Day | Closed Thursday; say if Friday is open |
| 2026-12-25 | Friday | Christmas Day | Closed Friday; reopen day named |
| 2027-01-01 | Friday | New Year's Day | Closed Friday; reopen day named |
| 2027-01-18 | Monday | Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. | Closed Monday; open Tuesday |
What is the cheapest way to make five notices?
Make one calm background clip, for example a shop or office exterior, with a video job at POST /v1/videos. Check GET /v1/videos/models first for the durations and aspect ratios your chosen model accepts. Then run POST /v1/video-captions five times against that clip, each with its own cues.
Cues are authored overlay text with text, start and end in seconds. Sending them skips speech-to-text, which suits a silent background. Only one of script_text, words, cues and segments can be sent per request.
Can Python build the five payloads?
Yes. This script uses only the standard library, derives each weekday from the date so the text can't drift from the calendar, and prints one payload per holiday. Replace the clip URL with your own public HTTPS URL.
import json
from datetime import date
CLIP = "https://example.com/closed-background.mp4"
holidays = [
(date(2026, 11, 11), "Veterans Day"),
(date(2026, 11, 26), "Thanksgiving"),
(date(2026, 12, 25), "Christmas Day"),
(date(2027, 1, 1), "New Year's Day"),
(date(2027, 1, 18), "MLK Day"),
]
for d, name in holidays:
day = f"{d:%A} {d:%B} {d.day}"
payload = {
"video_url": CLIP,
"cues": [
{"text": f"Closed {day}", "start": 0, "end": 3},
{"text": f"Happy {name}", "start": 3, "end": 5},
],
}
print(json.dumps(payload))What should every notice include?
Keep the wording identical across the five clips and change only the date, weekday and holiday name. That makes review quick: one person reads five short cue sets, not five different scripts. If you run several locations with different hours, make one payload set per location rather than one vague notice for all of them. Post each clip a few days before its date, and take it down the day you reopen. The dates were read from OPM on 2026-10-12, and the agency's note says Saturday holidays move to the preceding Friday and Sunday ones to the following Monday, which matters if you plan for years beyond this window.
- The weekday and date, so nobody has to count.
- The reopening day, which the OPM list does not tell you. Add it yourself.
- One way to reach you for urgent matters, if you offer one.
- No claim that the closure is required of you. It is your policy.
