TikTok Shop Academy's promotional content recommendations (updated 06/24/2026) ask for content distinct enough to be original, your own edits or commentary when you stitch or duet, and a single visual narrative without interruptions. They also say to avoid stock footage and illustrated images, and to keep the promoted product matching the listing. The page gives no length, hook or caption numbers.

Build one narrative from your own clips

Timeline 1.0 places your clips on one voice spine, so the voiceover carries a single story across slots. Each video[] slot has start, duration and optional source_in; later slots can take a transition of up to 1 second. Below, a recorded voice runs over two of your own shots.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/timeline-1.0/render \

  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: own-story-001" \
  -d '{
    "audio": {"url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/voice.wav", "duration_seconds": 24},
    "video": [
      {"source_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/hands.mp4", "start": 0, "duration": 12},
      {"source_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/detail.mp4", "start": 12, "duration": 12,
       "transition": {"type": "fade", "duration": 0.25}}
    ]
  }'

Keep it yours

Use footage you shot of the actual product, and do not fill gaps with stock. If you generate a shot, base it on a photo of the listed item. Check stills with video inspect before upload, and trim any shot that shows something other than the listing with video trim.
