TikTok Shop video: no PDP screenshots, 50% rule, check with frames

TikTok Shop video rules bar screenshots, stills, slideshows and animated figures over half the screen. How to check a finished clip with Sume video frames.

TikTok Shop's video quality page says qualifying video needs at least three seconds of dynamic content, and it excludes stills, slideshows, product-detail-page screenshots, loops, and animated figures covering more than 50% of the screen. After you render a product clip, you can check it with Sume's video frames endpoint, which returns a still at an exact time, and see for yourself whether the frames break those rules.

The rules to test

Rules below are paraphrased from TikTok Shop Seller University pages. The AI content policy applies in the U.S. from September 2, 2026.

TikTok ruleFrame test
3 seconds or more of dynamic contentFrames at 0s, 1.5s, 3s differ

Animated figures under 50% of screenOverlay covers less than half of the frame

How to run the check

The video frames endpoint takes a Sume-hosted clip and a time and returns the frame at the source size. Pull five frames across the clip, then look at them. If three frames are the same picture, you have a held still.

If the product is animated from a packshot, compare a mid frame to the real product: shape, color and label text. TikTok's policy says animating a static product in a way that alters its specifications deceptively is not allowed, and it requires disclosure of AI-generated content.

  • Frame at 0s: the product should be visible.
  • Frame mid-clip: motion should show a different pose or angle.
  • Last frame: the end card should not be a screenshot of your product page.

Limits

Frames let you look, not decide. Sume does not know TikTok's review outcome and there is no endpoint that tells you a clip is compliant. The 50% figure is for animated figures, not product overlays in general, so read the page text before relying on this table.
