Smart+ allows 50 creatives per asset group: how many to make
TikTok's Smart+ structure caps at 30 ad groups, 30 asset groups and 50 creatives each. Work out the real number of videos to make and how Sume fits.

TikTok's Smart+ structure allows up to 30 ad groups per campaign, 30 asset groups per ad group and 50 creatives per asset group, so the ceiling is far above what any team will produce. The number worth planning is smaller: one asset group is a bundle of hooks you want TikTok to test against each other, and a dozen distinct videos per asset group is already a lot to make well.
This post turns the limits into a production plan and shows where Sume can generate the clips. Sume makes the video files; you still upload them in TikTok Ads Manager, because the Sume docs list no TikTok ad-upload endpoint.
What are the Smart+ structure limits right now?
The TikTok For Business blog on Smart+ states the structure as "up to 30 ad groups per campaign, 30 asset groups per ad group, and 50 creatives per asset group". It also says Smart+ offers creative-level reporting across three dimensions: Creative, Text and Enhancement, and that automatic placement covers TikTok, TikTok Pangle, Lemon8 and the Global App Bundle where available.
The Business Help Center article on the upgraded experience describes the same unification of manual and Smart+ flows for Traffic, Sales, Lead Generation and App Promotion, and adds a constraint that matters for budgets: in an automatic-budget campaign, all ad groups must use the same budget and bid strategies. The help article's figure for asset groups differs from the blog's, so check the number in your own Ads Manager before you plan around a hard ceiling.
| Level | Limit stated on the blog | Why it matters for production |
|---|---|---|
| Ad groups per campaign | 30 | One per audience or budget split; creatives are shared by design, not by count |
| Asset groups per ad group | 30 | One per angle: price, demo, testimonial-style, offer |
| Creatives per asset group | 50 | The slot count, not a production target |
| Placements | TikTok, TikTok Pangle, Lemon8, Global App Bundle where available | Plan one 9:16 master first |
How many distinct videos should one asset group hold?
Fifty slots are a ceiling for mixing videos, images and text, not a quota. The practical limit is that each video should differ in something a viewer can see or hear in the first seconds: the hook line, the opening shot, the offer, or the presenter. Fifty near-duplicates teach the optimizer little and make creative-level reports harder to read.
A workable starting plan is four to six angles per product, with two or three hook variants per angle. That is 8 to 18 videos in one asset group, well inside the cap, and each variant has a reason to exist. When reporting shows a winner, you spend the next batch on variations of that angle rather than on filling empty slots.
- Change one thing per variant: the first line of the script, or the opening scene, not both.
- Keep length, caption style and aspect ratio constant inside a test so the hook is the variable.
- Name each job with the angle and hook number so a Creative report row maps back to a source file.
How does Sume generate a batch of Smart+ creatives?
For a talking presenter, the avatar video endpoint takes a ready avatar plus a script, estimated at 4 to 60 seconds, with a default aspect ratio of 9:16 and a 720p resolution. Optional product_image and scene inputs add the product and a setting. Quality defaults to plus; standard is the fastest path and max is the slowest. Send an Idempotency-Key per variant so a retry does not create a second render.
For non-presenter clips, the video generation API lists models, resolutions, aspect ratios and durations on GET /v1/videos/models, so read the catalog for the model you pick rather than assuming a duration. Pricing also lives in the catalog; this post does not quote a per-clip price.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/avatar-1.0/talking-video \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: angle-price-hook-2" \
-d '{
"avatar_handle": "my-presenter",
"script": "Still paying full price? Here is the one-minute fix.",
"aspect_ratio": "9:16"
}'What does Sume not do in this workflow?
Sume does not create the Smart+ campaign, upload creatives, read Creative reports or pick winners. It produces files. Jobs are asynchronous by default; use webhooks or polling to collect finished MP4s for a batch, then upload them in Ads Manager.
Also check TikTok's own AI labeling rules before you upload a batch of avatar videos; the labeling posts linked below cover the reported rules, and TikTok remains the source of truth.
