Smart+ automatic placement spans Lemon8 and Pangle: one 9:16 master?
TikTok says Smart+ automatic placement can reach TikTok, Pangle, Lemon8 and the Global App Bundle. Start from one vertical master, then check each placement.

Start from one 9:16 master and check each placement's own requirements, because TikTok's Smart+ blog says automatic placement delivers ads across TikTok, TikTok Pangle, Lemon8 and the Global App Bundle "where available". A vertical master is the safest first file, but the blog does not list sizes, so confirm them in Ads Manager.
This post covers what the Smart+ pages state about placements, then how to build and cut a master with Sume.
What do the Smart+ pages say about placement?
The Smart+ blog lists the automatic placement surfaces as TikTok, TikTok Pangle, Lemon8 and the Global App Bundle, where available. The Business Help Center article says placement is automatic by default, with a manual override available, and that the upgraded flow covers Traffic, Sales, Lead Generation and App Promotion. It also notes more targeting options, and unified manual and Smart+ setup in one flow.
Neither page gives per-placement file specs. Your safest reading is: the same campaign can show your creative in more than one surface, and you should not assume a single file passes every surface's checks.
| Question | What the pages say |
|---|---|
| Which surfaces? | TikTok, TikTok Pangle, Lemon8, Global App Bundle, where available |
| Is placement automatic? | Automatic by default; manual override available |
| Which objectives? | Traffic, Sales, Lead Generation, App Promotion |
| Per-placement specs? | Not given on these pages |
Is a 9:16 master enough?
For TikTok's own feed, vertical is the native shape, and Sume's avatar videos default to 9:16 at 720p. For other surfaces, treat a vertical file as a starting point and check Ads Manager's creative checks for each one. If a placement rejects or crops your file, you can switch to manual placement and exclude it, or supply a second ratio.
The linked Pangle and Global App Bundle posts list sizes reported for those surfaces; confirm them against Ads Manager before relying on them.
Do the check on a real device. Upload the file as a draft or preview wherever Ads Manager offers one, and look at how the first two seconds read in each surface it shows. The hook is usually the part that breaks first when a frame is cropped, so keep the face, the product and the key words inside the central area of the frame. That habit costs nothing and works in any ratio you end up using.
How do you make the master and a second ratio with Sume?
The avatar video endpoint accepts aspect_ratio values of 1:1, 3:4, 9:16, 4:3 and 16:9, with 9:16 as the default and 720p as the current resolution. So the same script can produce a vertical master and a square or landscape variant as separate jobs. For non-presenter clips, GET /v1/videos/models lists each model's supported aspect ratios and durations, so read it for the model you choose.
Cut length with video trim when a placement wants a shorter clip, and keep the same job naming across ratios so reports map back to the same idea.

"avatar_handle": "my-presenter",
"script": "Free shipping ends tonight. Here is what is in the box.",
"aspect_ratio": "1:1"
}'What should you test first?
Run one Smart+ campaign with automatic placement and read the placement breakdown in Ads Manager, if your account shows one. If a surface takes spend but its results lag, test a second ratio for it rather than guessing. Sume produces the files and does not read placement reports, change placements or upload creative, so keep that loop in TikTok.
A test plan keeps this cheap. Make the 9:16 master and one square variant from the same script, give them matching names, and run both in the same asset group. Smart+ reports performance per creative, so you can see whether the square file earns its place or whether the vertical master covers everything. If the answer is that the master is enough, you have saved yourself a second set of files for every future idea.
Also keep legibility in mind. On-screen copy that sits safely in a vertical frame can be cropped or shrunk in another ratio, so keep key words well away from the edges and check each variant on a phone before you upload it.
