What would I be replacing: Runway's app or its API?

Runway sells two different things. The app plans are a creative suite billed in credits: a Free plan with 125 one-time credits, then Standard from $12 a month billed annually for 625 credits, where Gen-4.5 uses 12 credits per second. Paid plans add an agentic creative collaborator, music, voice and sound effects generation, 4K upscaling and projects, and Pro adds a Brand Kit, a custom voice clone and Runway MCP (pricing). Runway credits per video does the per-clip arithmetic.

The API is a developer product: credits at $0.01 each, with third-party models listed next to Runway's own Gen-4.5 and Aleph 2.0, among them seedance2_5, wan3 and grok_imagine_1_5 (API pricing). If you leave the app, you are replacing editing and finishing tools; if you leave the API, you are replacing model access. Sume's catalog does not include Runway's Gen or Aleph models; the partner families are sold by others too.

Is there a free Runway alternative?

Not among the API alternatives, going by the pages read on 2026-09-28: fal runs on prepaid credits, Higgsfield's API on a topped-up balance, Kling's API on resource packages, and Replicate bills for what you use. Sume bills every video from the workspace's USD balance at provider list × 1.25. Runway's own Free plan, 125 one-time credits, is the only free video allowance these pages state.

How do I move a Runway API call to Sume?

If you call a partner model on Runway, look for the same family in Sume's catalog: Runway's API lists seedance2_5, seedance2, wan3 and grok_imagine_1_5, and Sume's catalog has seedance-2.5, seedance-2, wan-3.0 and grok-imagine-video-1.5. Send the Sume id with your prompt, duration and resolution to POST /v1/videos, then poll the job; the request follows the OpenRouter video API field for field. Durations differ by model: seedance-2.5 and wan-3.0 go to 30 seconds, most others stop at 15.
