On Runway, one video costs its length times the model's credits per second: Gen-4.5 uses 12 credits per second of generated video, so a 5-second Gen-4.5 clip is 60 credits. Runway's pricing page does the conversion per plan: Standard's 625 monthly credits equal 52 seconds of Gen-4.5 or 104 seconds of Gen-4 Turbo.

Every Runway figure here comes from Runway's pricing page, read 2026-09-28, which prices its plans and lists the credits each model uses. The Sume comparison at the end uses Sume's Video generation docs.

How many credits does one Runway video use?

Runway says each model uses a set number of credits per generation, depending on the model, the duration and the resolution. Its plan comparison lists a clip price for four video models and how many of those clips each plan's yearly credits buy.

From Runway's pricing page, read 2026-09-28. Credits per second = the listed clip price ÷ its length; "per year" is the page's generations per year on each plan.

Seedance 2.0 Pro 1080p160 per 4-second clip4046168712
Seedance 2.0 Fast116 per 4-second clip2964232982

Why does Runway use so many credits?

Because the rate is per second and differs a lot by model. Aleph 2.0 lists 140 credits for 5 seconds, 28 a second, so Standard's 625 monthly credits cover 4 such clips. Seedance 2.0 Pro at 1080p is 160 credits for 4 seconds, 40 a second.

Credits are spent per generation, including takes you throw away, so a shot you generate three times before keeping one uses three clips' worth.

What does each Runway plan include?

Paid plans come with a monthly credit allotment; the Free plan gives 125 credits once. The page shows each plan's monthly price and its own conversion of the credits into seconds of video.

From Runway's pricing page, read 2026-09-28.

Do Runway credits roll over or expire?

  • Standard and Pro: monthly credits don't roll over; they reset within 24 hours of your billing date each cycle.
  • Max: up to one month of unused credits rolls over to the following month.
  • Free: the one-time 125 credits don't expire.
  • Extra credits: bought from the Plans & Billing page in your dashboard, with a minimum purchase of 1,000 credits. Credits you buy this way never expire.

How is a video priced without credits?

Some pay-per-use APIs price video in dollars instead of per-model credits. Sume's balance is USD-denominated, and each video model is billed at the provider's list price × 1.25 per second (or per 1,000 video tokens on the Seedance models), reserved when you submit, plus a 5.5% agent fee by default. Runway's developer API still uses credits, sold at $0.01 each and spent per second; see Runway API pricing. How Sume pricing works covers Sume's plans and wallet.
