Instagram Feed Carousel Ad Specs: 4:5 Images, 1:1 Video Cards
Meta lists Instagram Feed carousel ads as 2-10 cards, 4:5 for images, 1:1 for video, video 1 second to 2 minutes. Build the cards with Sume trim and images.

What are the Instagram Feed carousel ad specs?
Meta's Instagram Feed carousel page lists 4:5 for image-only carousels and 1:1 for video carousels, minimum 1080x1080 with a 1% tolerance. Images may be up to 30 MB and video up to 4 GB. Video cards run from 1 second to 2 minutes. A carousel has 2 to 10 cards, primary text is 125 characters with up to 30 hashtags, and each card can have its own link.
The page adds that the system may reposition the creative while keeping card order. I read it on 2026-10-03.
| Field | Meta's value |
|---|---|
| Image-only carousel | 4:5 |
| Video carousel | 1:1 |
| Minimum resolution | 1080x1080 |
| Image / video size | 30 MB / 4 GB |
| Video length | 1 second to 2 minutes |
| Cards | 2 to 10 |
| Primary text | 125 characters, up to 30 hashtags |
What is the difference from a single Feed video?
A single Instagram Feed video ad has its own page and limits. The carousel is a different tool: each card links on its own, and the aspect ratio rule depends on what the carousel contains. Image-only carousels use 4:5, while video carousels use 1:1, so a mixed plan needs decisions up front.
How do I build the cards with Sume?
For image cards, POST /v1/images accepts aspect_ratio: "4:5", which Sume's docs describe as Instagram portrait at 1080x1350. For video cards, the trim endpoint can cut a segment and conform it to { "width": 1080, "height": 1080 } with exact precision, at $0.02 per job. Keep each card clip short; 2 minutes is the ceiling, but a card is often seen for seconds.
Remember that a Sume job needs a media.sume.com source, so import first, and send an Idempotency-Key header on every write.
- Pick image-only or video before you generate anything; the ratios differ.
- Cut each video card from a different part of one source so the set stays coherent.
- Write one hashtag line, not 30; the limit is a maximum.
How should I order the cards?
Put the strongest card first, since it is the one every viewer sees. Meta says the system may reposition creative while keeping card order, so the order you give is the one your story relies on. Build the sequence as a short narrative, not as 10 unrelated product shots.
