Meta's ads guide lists Instagram Feed video ads from 1 second to 60 minutes, as MP4, MOV or GIF up to 4 GB, at 9:16 with 1080 x 1920 and a 1% aspect ratio tolerance. It also says videos should not contain edit lists or special boxes in the file container.

Read 2026-10-02 from the Instagram Feed ad specs page. The Reels ad page carries the same container warning.

The Feed numbers

Only the length and container note are new compared with the posts already on this blog about 9:16 Feed ads.

What edit lists mean for a trimmed file

An edit list is a container-level instruction to start playback partway into a stream. Tools that cut by copying streams can leave one behind. Sume's video trim offers precision: exact, a frame-accurate re-encode with libx264 and yuv420p, and precision: keyframe, a stream copy where the cut may start a GOP early.

The Sume docs do not say whether either mode writes an edit list, so this post does not claim it. If your ad is rejected for the container, try the exact mode, then upload again. The existing post on edit lists and keyframe trims covers the same trade-off for YouTube.

Sume's length caps against 60 minutes

The documented caps on Sume's side.

  • Trim output is capped at 900 seconds (15 minutes) and the trim source at 1800 seconds.
  • Timeline 1.0 takes an audio length from 1 to 1800 seconds, so 30 minutes is its documented ceiling.
  • So Sume cannot assemble a 60-minute ad in one render. For nearly all Feed video ads that is not a limit you will hit.

Checklist

Keep it to MP4 or MOV, stay inside 1080 x 1920 at 9:16, and preview the file in Ads Manager. If Meta rejects the container, re-encode and test again.
