Facebook Feed Carousel Ad Specs: 1:1, 80/20/18 Text Limits
Meta lists Facebook Feed carousel ads as 2-10 square cards at 1080x1080, video up to 240 minutes, and 80/20/18 text limits. Cut the cards with Sume trim.

What are the Facebook Feed carousel ad specs?
Meta's Facebook Feed carousel page lists a 1:1 ratio at a minimum of 1080x1080 for both image and video cards, with images up to 30 MB and video up to 4 GB. Video cards can run from 1 second to 240 minutes with a 3% tolerance. A carousel has 2 to 10 cards. Text limits are 80 characters of primary text, 20 for the headline and 18 for the description.
Compare this with the Instagram Feed carousel, where video cards top out at 2 minutes and primary text is 125 characters. The two Feed placements look similar and have different limits, so one export does not satisfy both. I read the page on 2026-10-03.
| Field | Meta's value |
|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 1:1 |
| Minimum resolution | 1080x1080 |
| Image / video size | 30 MB / 4 GB |
| Video length | 1 second to 240 minutes |
| Cards | 2 to 10 |
| Primary text | 80 characters |
| Headline / description | 20 / 18 characters |
Where do creators trip on these limits?
The 18-character description and 20-character headline are the tightest. A product name plus a size will often overflow. Write the card headline first, count it, and only then write the primary text. The 80-character primary text is shorter than the 125 you may be used to from Instagram.
How do I make square cards with Sume?
Image cards: POST /v1/images with aspect_ratio: "1:1". Video cards: trim a segment with precision: "exact" and output: { "width": 1080, "height": 1080 }. Trim is listed at $0.02 per job, and the conform range of 256 to 2160 covers the square. Source clips must be Sume-hosted, and each write needs an Idempotency-Key header.
Cut every video card from the same master so the colour and audio level match. A card that is louder than its neighbour is the first thing a viewer notices when swiping.
- Use image cards for a range of products, video cards for a demonstration.
- Keep each video card to a single idea; the 240-minute ceiling is not a target.
- Count the three text fields before upload.
Is a longer video card ever a good idea?
The ceiling exists for tutorials and long demos. For a carousel, short cards usually serve better because the viewer chooses what to open. If you do have a long demo, trim it into chapters, one per card, and give each its own link. Check Meta's current carousel rules for per-card links.
