Facebook Marketplace Image Ad Specs: 1080x1080 and Text Limits
Meta lists Marketplace image ads as 1:1, 1080x1080 minimum, JPG or PNG up to 30 MB, with 125/40/30 text limits. Make the square image with the Sume Images API.

What are the Facebook Marketplace image ad specs?
The Marketplace image page in Meta's ads guide is short. Files are JPG or PNG, the aspect ratio is 1:1, the minimum resolution is 1080x1080, and the file may be up to 30 MB. Text limits are 125 characters for primary text, 40 for the headline and 30 for the description. I read the page on 2026-10-03.
A square image is the format that is easiest to produce from a generator, because there is no safe zone to plan around as there is on Reels. The constraint is mostly legibility at the small sizes a listing grid can show.
| Field | Meta's value |
|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 1:1 |
| Minimum resolution | 1080x1080 |
| File types | JPG, PNG |
| Max file size | 30 MB |
| Primary text | 125 characters |
| Headline | 40 characters |
| Description | 30 characters |
How do I generate a 1:1 image with Sume?
Sume's Images API takes POST /v1/images with model: "sume/auto" and an aspect_ratio. The documented ratios include 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4, 4:5, 5:4, 2:3 and 3:2. Choose 1:1, and set output_format to png or jpeg, the two formats Meta accepts here.
Writes need an Idempotency-Key header. Models differ in the pixel size they return, so open the result and check the width against the 1080 minimum before you build a campaign around it. If a model returns less than 1080 on a side, pick one that offers a larger output rather than upscaling blind.
curl https://api.sume.com/v1/images \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen)" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"model":"sume/auto","prompt":"A ceramic mug on a pale wood table, soft daylight","aspect_ratio":"1:1","output_format":"png"}'How should I write within the three text limits?
Three fields means three jobs. Use the primary text for the offer in a full sentence, the headline for the product or action in under 40 characters, and the description for one qualifier such as shipping or a size range, in under 30. Count characters before you paste, including spaces.
Do not repeat the same line in all three fields. Marketplace shows the fields together, and repeating wastes the only space you have.
What should I put on the image itself?
Meta's page for Facebook Reels images advises against text on small images, and the same logic applies to a listing thumbnail: keep the subject large and the background simple, and leave the selling copy to the text fields. If you need a label, add it as a short word, not a sentence.
When you want a vertical and a square from one concept, generate the 1:1 first and the 9:16 second with the same prompt, then compare. Keep both prompts in your own notes so the next batch starts from a known base.
