1,000 lines of 150 characters is 150,000 characters. At Microsoft's list prices that is $2.25 on MAI-Voice-2.1 Flash and $3.30 on standard; on Sume the list rate gives about $7.13, but each separate job has a one-cent minimum and rounds up, so 1,000 jobs bill at least $10.

The math

Prices: $15 and $22 per million characters; Sume $0.0475 per 1,000 characters (Sume docs).

Why Sume costs more here

Sume is the higher per-character price on these numbers. What you get is a known cost, a spend cap, and the platform around it (captions, joining audio, avatars). If your job is only bulk speech, Microsoft's list price is cheaper, but its model is a public preview with no SLA (Learn page).

Batching lines into fewer Sume jobs, each up to 20,000 characters, brings the bill near list; you then cut the audio apart yourself.
