Budgets for voice work are usually set in dollars, while the API counts characters. Dividing a $100 budget by the per-character price gives the capacity directly, and it makes the three prices easy to compare: MAI-Voice-2.1 at $22 per million characters, MAI-Voice-2.1-Flash at $15 per million (both as reported by Digital Applied and PYMNTS, read 2026-10-06), and Sume's TTS Router at $0.0475 per 1,000 characters after list × 1.25.

$100 of voice

Sume limits to keep in mind

A single Sume TTS request takes 1 to 20,000 characters, so $100 is at least 100 full-size jobs at catalog price, not one request. Long scripts are split into jobs; the price is per character, so splitting does not change the total.

Sume prices every job at the vendor list price × 1.25, then adds a 5.5% fee on that result, so $1.00 of list becomes $1.31875 (how the formula works). The tables below show both the catalog price (list × 1.25) and the all-in figure with the fee.
