Vidyard 3 custom AI avatars and 15 AI videos vs Sume handles
Vidyard lists 3 custom AI avatars on paid plans and 15 AI videos on Free. Price the same on Sume: three avatars at $0.95 and 15 clips by tier.
Vidyard's pricing page says all paid plans include 3 custom AI avatars, that a custom avatar is built from a user-provided training video, and that the Free plan allows 15 AI videos a month. On Sume, three avatars cost $2.85 (three creations at $0.95), and 15 clips of 30 seconds cost $82.80 on Standard.
Figures are from Vidyard's pricing page and Sume's avatar creation guide, read 2026-10-04. The Starter price is not shown on the page I read, so I make no dollar comparison for Vidyard plans.
What the Vidyard page states
Vidyard is a video platform first, so the avatar sits next to hosting, analytics and sales workflows. Sume sells the avatar and the render as an API.
| Item | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Free plan | 15 AI videos and 5 videos per month |
| Paid plans | 3 custom AI avatars; stock avatars on all tiers |
| Custom avatar source | A user-provided training video |
| Video Agent add-on | Unlimited AI videos, 3 custom AI avatars |
| Starter price | Not specified (14-day trial) |
Three avatars on Sume
Sume has three creation inputs: a text prompt, structured props (ethnicity, sex, age) or a reference photo from a public HTTPS image URL. Creation is job-backed, and the finished avatar is a reusable workspace resource named by your avatar_handle. The Avatar 1.0 route is POST /v1/avatar-1.0/generate.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/avatar-1.0/generate \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: seller-avatar-001" \
-d '{
"avatar_handle": "seller_one",
"input": {"type": "props", "ethnicity": "Asian", "sex": "female", "age": 28}
}'Fifteen clips, priced
Add the creation cost once per presenter. For three presenters that is $2.85 on top.
| Clip length | Standard | Plus | Max |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 seconds each | $41.40 | $55.12 | $123.75 |
| 30 seconds each | $82.80 | $110.25 | $247.50 |
| 60 seconds each | $165.60 | $220.50 | $495.00 |
Training video versus photo or prompt
Vidyard builds the avatar from a recording of a person. Sume builds it from a prompt, a profile or a photo, so no training video is needed, and the consent question is about the photo. If the avatar is a real person, get written permission before you upload the photo, and say in the finished video that the presenter is AI-generated. The release checklist post lists what to cover.
