TikTok TopView self-serve in Ads Manager: have the creative ready
TopView now books and edits in Ads Manager via allowlist, with a one-click appeal and geo exclusion up to 40%. What video to have ready before you book.

TopView self-serve lets an advertiser book and manage a TopView buy directly in TikTok Ads Manager instead of through a sales process, but according to TikTok's Q3 2026 preview it is available in select markets via advertiser allowlisting. The creative has to be ready before you book, because inventory checks and edits happen in the same flow.
This post covers what the preview says about TopView, and how to prepare video with Sume. For the format's technical specs, see the linked TopView specs post and confirm them in Ads Manager, since the preview does not list sizes.
What changed for TopView in the Q3 preview?
TikTok's product preview lists four TopView items. Self-serve brings direct booking and management in Ads Manager, with real-time inventory checks, order modifications and a one-click appeal workflow; it starts in Q3 for select markets via allowlisting and requires an Advertising Purchase Agreement. Geo Exclusion lets you exclude up to 40% of sub-regions such as states, cities or designated areas, available globally via allowlist. Traffic Optimization prioritizes click-through likelihood while keeping guaranteed reach, with an "Optimized Click" option at setup and TikTok Shop destinations supported in all Shop-enabled countries. TopReach Max Reach combines TopView and TopFeed into a single buy to maximize unique reach among a selected audience on a given day, also via allowlist in select regions.
Every item carries an allowlist or market caveat, so check what your account can actually book before planning creative around any of them.
| Item | What TikTok states | Access stated |
|---|---|---|
| Self-serve | Book and manage in Ads Manager; inventory checks, edits, one-click appeal | Select markets, advertiser allowlisting; needs Advertising Purchase Agreement |
| Geo Exclusion | Exclude up to 40% of sub-regions | Available globally via allowlist |
| Traffic Optimization | Optimized Click option, guaranteed reach kept | Via allowlist; Shop destinations in Shop-enabled countries |
| TopReach Max Reach | TopView plus TopFeed in one buy | Allowlist in select regions |
Why does self-serve change the creative workflow?
With a sales-led buy, creative review could trail behind the booking. In self-serve, you see inventory in real time and can modify an order, so a booking can move as fast as your files do. The one-click appeal also means a rejected clip can be fixed and resubmitted quickly, if you have a corrected version on hand.
That favors teams that keep a master and a short list of variants ready: a main cut, a shorter cut, and a version with different on-screen copy. Build those before the booking window, not during it.
How do you prepare TopView video with Sume?
Start with the clip. For a presenter-led opening, the avatar video endpoint takes a script estimated at 4 to 60 seconds and defaults to 9:16 at 720p. If you already have footage, video trim cuts a [start, end) range into a new MP4 without touching the source; send start and either end or duration, plus an Idempotency-Key. Burn on-screen copy with video captions, and pull a poster still with video frames.
Trim and frames work on a clip that already sits on media.sume.com, so import your own file first through POST /v1/media-imports.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-trim \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: topview-cut-b" \
-d '{
"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/master.mp4",
"start": 0,
"duration": 9
}'What does Sume not cover here?
Sume does not book TopView, check inventory, run appeals or read your allowlist status. It also does not state TopView's file requirements; take those from the TopView specs in Ads Manager. Finally, check TikTok's AI-content disclosure options for ads before you submit a generated clip, since an appeal costs time you may not have on a booked day.
A short pre-booking checklist helps. Confirm your account is on the allowlist and that the Advertising Purchase Agreement is in place. Have the master and two alternates rendered and reviewed. Write the on-screen copy in a file so it can be corrected and re-burned quickly if an appeal is needed. And decide in advance which sub-regions you would exclude, since Geo Exclusion tops out at 40%.
Geo Exclusion also affects creative. If you exclude regions because of language or offer, make sure the clip you book matches the regions you keep, with the right language and the right price. Rendering a localized variant with a different script and caption cues takes minutes in a batch, so it is practical to prepare one per major remaining region rather than running a single clip everywhere.
