Editing a TikTok ad's video triggers a new review: plan for 24 hours

TikTok says saving or editing an ad's creative starts a new review, and most ads clear in about 24 hours. Plan a swapped AI video, and cut one with Video trim.

Yes. TikTok's ad review FAQ says a new review starts automatically when you save or edit an ad's creative, including videos, images, text and links, or change the ad group's targeting location. It adds that "typically most ads are reviewed within 24 hours, although in some cases it may take longer" (read 2026-10-03).

So swapping in a new AI cut on launch day puts that ad back in the queue. The page gives no guarantee below 24 hours, so build the gap into the schedule.

What triggers a new review, and what are the ways out of a rejection?

Everything here is from TikTok's Ad review FAQ as read on 2026-10-03.

What does this mean for swapping an AI-generated variant?

Treat each swapped video as a fresh submission, not a hot swap. Keep the approved version live until the replacement clears, and avoid replacing the creative of an ad that carries a launch date.

The FAQ and the format policy are separate pages and give different length ranges, 5 seconds to 10 minutes on one and 5 to 60 seconds on the other, as I read them. A variant that fits one page and not the other is a risk, so check against the placement spec in TikTok in-feed ad specs before the swap.

Cut a shorter variant without regenerating the clip

When the issue is length, Video trim cuts a [start, end) range from one clip on media.sume.com into a new MP4. The source is untouched and the result is a new artifact. The docs list the public rate at $0.02 per job and say to confirm it in GET /v1/catalog.

precision defaults to exact, a frame-accurate re-encode; keyframe copies the stream and can start a GOP early, so re-base against actual_start_seconds. audio is keep or drop; keep it, since the policy page says an ad must contain audio. The trimmed file is a new creative as far as TikTok is concerned, so it goes through review like any other edit.

  }'

A simple launch calendar for AI ad variants

The numbers come from TikTok's page; the rest is scheduling.

  • Submit every variant at least a day before it must run, since review typically takes up to 24 hours and can run longer.
  • Finish all edits first. Each save to the creative starts a review again.
  • On rejection, read the recommended changes, fix the clip, and resubmit; use a support ticket only for a rejection you think is wrong.
  • Keep a record of which file version was approved.
