TikTok's reported 24 hours to disclose or appeal, and a burned-in fix

A brand-agency summary reports TikTok gives 24 hours to add a disclosure or appeal. A plan for that day, and a Sume captions call that burns the line in.

Use the first hour to decide whether to correct or appeal, and the rest to do it. Darkroom reports that undisclosed commercial content can be removed from the For You feed or have its reach limited, and that the creator gets 24 hours to add the disclosure or appeal (read 2026-10-02; agency summary, not TikTok's page). Sume can help with one part: producing a new copy with the disclosure burned into the picture.

What should the 24 hours look like?

Hour 0 to 1: confirm which clips are affected and whether the content is a paid partnership. Hours 1 to 4: add the disclosure through TikTok's own setting if the post allows it. If it does not, or if you disagree with the call, file the appeal. Keep the re-render as the fallback.

How do you burn a disclosure line into a finished clip?

Video captions accepts cues: phrase-level cards with text, start and end in seconds. Cues skip speech-to-text and burn exactly that copy. Use the wording TikTok asks for, which this post does not supply. Each standalone job reserves $0.20 for videos up to 60 seconds; confirm in GET /v1/catalog.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-captions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: disclosure-line-001" \
  -d '{"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/example/ad.mp4",
"cues": [{"text": "Paid partnership", "start": 0, "end": 5}]}'

Is a burned-in line enough?

It is a visible line, not the platform's disclosure setting. The stored posts linked below cover the toggle and the FTC view that a disclosure should be unavoidable. Use the burned-in line as an addition, and keep the original post's setting correct.

What should you not do in the rush?

Do not delete the flagged post before you have kept a copy, the post URL and the notice. Do not re-upload the same file under a new caption and call it fixed. And do not assume the 24 hours figure is current: it comes from one agency summary, so open TikTok's notice in your account and use the deadline written there.
