TikTok Shop inactive seller after 40 days: what it means before Nov 27
TikTok Shop calls a seller inactive after 40 calendar days without account interaction; Holiday Mode is exempt. Idle since Oct 18 means day 40 is Nov 27.

TikTok Shop treats a seller as inactive after 40 calendar days without interacting with the account, and shops in Holiday Mode are not considered inactive. If your last interaction was October 18, day 40 lands on November 27, which is Black Friday 2026.
The policy page gives September 17, 2026 as the implementation date. It also says orders must still be processed by moving them to Ready to Ship.
What happens at day 7 and day 40
After 7 days of inactivity, buyers are informed that the account is inactive. After 40 days, you can no longer chat with buyers. For a Q4 seller, losing chat in the Black Friday week is the expensive part, because pre-purchase questions go unanswered.
| Day since last interaction | What the policy says |
|---|---|
| 7 | Buyers are informed that the account is inactive |
| 40 | Seller is considered inactive; chat with buyers is no longer possible |
| Any | Orders must still be updated to Ready to Ship |
| Any | Shops in Holiday Mode are not considered inactive |
Dates to put on a calendar
Count 40 days from your last real interaction, not from your last upload. The policy page defines inactivity by account interaction; it does not say that publishing a video resets the count, so do not rely on that. Log in and handle messages and orders on a schedule instead.
Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30. A seller whose last interaction was October 18 reaches day 40 on the 27th; October 19 reaches it on the 28th.
Where video production fits
Production is separate from account activity. If you plan to go quiet for part of the season, Holiday Mode is the policy's own exemption. If you stay active, queue the Q4 clips ahead so promotional days do not depend on a person at a keyboard.
As a budget example, six 15-second Sume avatar clips for weekly sale announcements cost 6 x $2.76 = $16.56 on Standard or 6 x $3.675 = $22.05 on Plus, using the rate card. Check the price returned for each job.
- Write all six scripts from your promotion calendar in one sitting.
- Keep prices out of spoken lines if they may change; show them on the listing.
- Use Holiday Mode if you will not be able to answer buyers.
