Shopify's 5 recommended video ratios vs what each Sume model makes
Shopify recommends 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4 and 1:1. Seedance, MiniMax H3 and Wan 3.0 cover all five; Kling 3 lacks 4:3 and 3:4, and Gemini Omni Flash only has 2.

Shopify's file upload help page recommends five video aspect ratios: 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4 and 1:1 (read 2026-10-08). Of the Sume video models, Seedance, MiniMax H3, MiniMax H3 Max and Wan 3.0 list all five, Kling 3 lists three, Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 lists two and Grok Imagine Video 1.5 takes no aspect ratio at all.

Other Shopify limits worth knowing
The same page gives the file limits for product video.
- Video: up to 1 GB, up to 10 minutes, at least 0.25 seconds.
- Formats: MOV, MP4, WEBM; dimensions 100 to 4096 px; up to 120 fps.
- Recommended: H.264, 60, 30 or 25 fps, AAC, MP3 or Opus audio.
What to do on Sume
Pick the ratio per placement, not per model. A product page that wants 4:3 or 3:4 needs Seedance, H3 or Wan, because the other models do not list those shapes. For Grok Imagine, crop the still to 4:3 or 3:4 first and the clip follows. Check the capability list live with GET /v1/video-router/models before you hard-code a ratio in a bulk run; see the Video Router docs.
Mapping ratios to placements
A store usually needs three shapes: 16:9 for the hero banner, 1:1 or 4:3 for the product gallery, and 9:16 for mobile product stories. Render those three per SKU and tag them by shape in your file names, so the right file goes to the right slot.
Shopify's help page also lists the recommended resolutions as 4K, 1080p, 720p and 480p. The Sume models that offer 1080p are Seedance, Wan 3.0, Omni Flash and H3 Max; Kling 3 offers 720p and 1080p.
- Hero: 16:9 at 1080p.
- Gallery: 1:1 or 4:3 at 720p.
- Mobile: 9:16 at 720p.
Before you scale
Do not assume a ratio is available because it worked in an earlier run. The catalog is the source of truth, and the Video Router docs say each model can have a different envelope. A bulk template should read the model's capabilities once at the start, and fall back to a model that lists the ratio, instead of failing item by item halfway through a queue.
