Redfin guided video tour: what to make, and the Matterport rule

Redfin lets agents post a guided video tour in select markets and only shows my.matterport.com walkthroughs inline. What Sume can make for the carousel video.

Redfin accepts a guided video tour from an agent in select markets, and features it prominently in the listing image carousel. It shows a virtual walkthrough inline only when the link is a my.matterport.com URL; other walkthrough links go in the listing details section. Sume can make the guided video tour as an MP4, and does not make 3D walkthroughs.

Everything about Redfin below comes from Make your Listing Shine on Redfin with Video Tours and 3D Virtual Walkthroughs, read 2026-10-03. Sume facts come from Timeline 1.0 and Video trim.

What does Redfin's page actually promise?

The page is a marketing announcement, so treat it as a list of what Redfin says, not a spec sheet.

  • In select markets, any agent can post a guided video tour of their listing on Redfin.
  • If a guided video tour is already in the MLS, Redfin says it may already be showing it, so upload to the MLS too.
  • The video is featured prominently in the image carousel.
  • Named markets include Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul, the Washington D.C. area and Southern California (Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County and others).
  • Tours get map icons, listing banners and filters on the site and apps.

Where does the Matterport rule come in?

The page says Redfin can only display virtual walkthroughs that have a my.matterport.com URL, and that other virtual walkthrough links continue to be shared in the listing details section. So a link to your own hosted tour page lands in the details, not the carousel.

Sume's docs describe no 3D tour or Matterport feature. A Sume MP4 is a video file, not a walkthrough link of that kind. The page does not list file specs for the guided video, so it does not tell you size, length or codec; ask Redfin or your MLS before you assume them.

How do I build the guided tour video itself?

Timeline 1.0 takes one audio spine plus ordered video[] slots and returns one MP4. Its default output is 1080 by 1920, which is vertical. A guided tour in landscape needs output.width and output.height set (even integers, 256 to 2160), for example 1920 by 1080.

Use source_in and duration per slot to pick the part of each room clip, and a short transition between rooms (fade, wipeleft and others, at most 1 second). Voice-over can be one audio.url of up to 1800 seconds.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/timeline-1.0/render \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: guided-tour-001" \
  -d '{
    "audio": {"url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/voice.wav", "duration_seconds": 40},
    "video": [
      {"source_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/entry.mp4", "start": 0, "duration": 14},
      {"source_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/kitchen.mp4", "start": 14, "duration": 26,
       "transition": {"type": "fade", "duration": 0.5}}
    ],
    "output": {"width": 1920, "height": 1080, "fps": 30}
  }'

Which route fits which goal?

Redfin's list of markets is limited, so check yours before you invest in a cut made for Redfin only.

What should I confirm before I upload?

Confirm your market is on Redfin's list, whether your MLS already carries the video, and that the file meets whatever the portal's upload screen states. Sume's result gives video_url, duration_seconds and segment_count through the job result; see Jobs and results. The upload step is yours.

If an agent intro belongs at the start, an avatar video job produces a talking-head clip of 4 to 60 seconds that you can place as the first slot of the timeline.
