A removed placement means one fewer destination to check, not one fewer ratio to render. Common Thread, a store-side summary, reports that Meta removed the Messenger Stories placement on 2026-08-27, six days after it reports ad-set placement exclusions were removed (read 2026-10-02). With exclusions gone, an ad can run in any remaining placement, so the render list should come from Meta's current placement list, not from last quarter's template.

What should you change in the render list?

Take the list of placements Meta shows in your account today and cross out Messenger Stories. If your 9:16 cut was made only for that placement, it is still needed for Reels and Stories on the other apps, so do not delete it. Do not guess at pixel specs from this post: it does not carry them. Read the placement spec on Meta's own help page and write the ratio next to each placement.

Which ratios can Sume video generate?

The Video 1.0 docs list these aspect_ratio values for Auto: auto, adaptive, 21:9, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4 and 9:16. 4:5 is not on that list. If your plan needs a 4:5 video, either check the model's own supported parameters with GET /v1/videos/models or cut a crop from a render with Video filter, whose crop op takes fractions of the frame and costs $0.02 per encode job (confirm in GET /v1/catalog).

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/videos \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: ad-916-001" \
  -d '{"model": "sume/auto", "prompt": "Product on a kitchen counter, slow push-in", "duration": 6, "aspect_ratio": "9:16"}'

What should you not do?

Do not pay for a new render because a placement vanished. First check which of your existing files already cover the remaining placements. And do not treat one agency blog as Meta's announcement: open your Ads Manager placement list and trust what it shows.
