Meta removed ad-set placement exclusions: render every ratio
Per Common Thread, Meta removed ad-set placement exclusions on 2026-08-21. If you cannot opt out of a placement, render every ratio your list needs.

If an ad set can no longer exclude a placement, the ad may run in places you did not plan for, so it needs a usable crop for each. The Common Thread summary of Meta's 2026 changes dates the removal of ad-set placement exclusions to 2026-08-21, and also lists Messenger Stories placement removed on 2026-08-27 (page read 2026-10-02).
The summary does not list Meta's current size specs, so this post does not either. Take sizes from Meta's own help pages. What Sume can tell you is which ratios its models can produce.
Which ratios can Sume produce?
Sume's Image API names 17 normalized aspect ratios plus auto, and each model lists the subset it accepts. Video differs: GET /v1/videos/models lists supported_aspect_ratios per model, and Auto routing makes 3 to 10 second clips at 16:9 or 9:16.
| Surface | Ratios named in the docs | Where to check per model |
|---|---|---|
| Image API | 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, 3:2, 5:4, 2:1, 21:9, 9:16, 3:4, 2:3, 4:5, and more | supported_parameters.aspect_ratio on /v1/images/models |
| Video generation | 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, 2:3, 21:9, 9:21 | supported_aspect_ratios on /v1/videos/models |
| Sume Auto video | 16:9 or 9:16 | Auto create controls |
How do I cover placements I cannot exclude?
Pick the ratios from your own Meta placement list, then ask for each directly instead of cropping a single master. A vertical and a square version of the same still are two requests with the same prompt and a different aspect_ratio.
4:5 is the portrait ratio Sume's docs call Instagram portrait, 1080 by 1350 pixels, not 4:3.
What about video?
Generate the vertical version first with aspect_ratio: "9:16". For a square cut of an existing clip, Sume's Timeline 1.0 takes output.width and output.height and a fit of cover, contain, stretch or blur, so you choose how the frame is filled.
What should I check on each crop?
Look at a frame from each version before you launch. Sume's video frames route extracts stills at times you name and is unbilled, so it is a cheap way to see where the product, price and headline end up.
