Advantage+ video expansion for Reels: build the 9:16 cut yourself

Meta's Advantage+ creative page lists video expansion for Facebook Reels and says it lifted conversions by 2% (read 2026-10-02). If you would rather decide how a landscape clip is reframed, render a 9:16 version on Sume with Timeline, whose default output is 1080x1920.

What Meta lists

Meta describes the enhancements as optional, reviewable in previews and removable at any time. Video expansion is one of the video features named on the page, next to image animation and image expansion (read 2026-10-02). The page does not publish the exact output size, so do not assume one.

Build the vertical cut on Sume

Timeline 1.0 renders MP4 at 1080x1920 by default. Each video slot has a fit of cover, contain, stretch or blur, so a 16:9 clip can fill the frame by cropping or sit inside it over a blurred background. Output length is 1 to 1800 seconds and the public rate is $0.10 per output minute, rounded up.

  • Import the source clip to Sume first; Timeline takes Sume-hosted media only.
  • Choose blur to keep the whole frame, or cover to fill.
  • Set output.width and height only if you need something other than the default.
  • Preview the cut on a phone before you upload.

If you need new footage

For a native vertical clip rather than a reframe, Seedance 2.5 on Sume accepts 9:16 and 4 to 30 seconds (Video Router). Sume does not publish to Meta. You still upload the file in Ads Manager. See also three formats from one product clip.
