'How this ad was made' in My Ad Center: what viewers see about AI ads
Assets you mark as AI created or edited get a disclosure in My Ad Center's 'How this ad was made' panel worldwide. Where it shows, and where overlays join.

When you mark an ad asset as AI created or edited in Google Ads, the ad gets a disclosure in the 'How this ad was made' section of the My Ad Center panel. Google's AI label page says this is accessible globally and gives details on AI use in ads, including whether the assets were AI created or edited. Viewers reach it from the three-dot menu on ads across Search, YouTube and Discover.
For campaigns that target the European Union, India or New York, ads with assets you designate as AI created or edited also carry a visible overlay on the ad itself. Everywhere else the disclosure sits in the menu, not on the picture.
Menu disclosure versus on-ad overlay
Two layers exist, and which one a viewer sees depends on where the campaign targets.
| Layer | Where | When |
|---|---|---|
| 'How this ad was made' | My Ad Center panel, from the three-dot menu on Search, YouTube and Discover ads | Any asset you designate as AI created or edited, globally |
| Visible overlay | On the ad itself | Campaigns that target the EU, India or New York |
| Your own label | Burned into the asset with your design tools | Optional; allowed under Google's overlay and watermark policies |
What to do for a Sume-made video ad
Plan the creative for the strictest case. If a campaign might target the EU, India or New York, assume a visible overlay can sit on your video, so keep the lower and upper edges free of important text. Use video captions design.placement.anchor_ratio to keep burned-in lines near the vertical middle, so an overlay or the platform UI is less likely to collide with them.
If you also want your own label in the picture, you can burn it as an authored cue: cues with text, start and end run no speech-to-text and render exactly what you send. A standalone caption job is $0.20 for a clip of up to 60 seconds. Google's page says such labels do not violate its policies on text overlays and watermarks, and advises keeping them off the very corners and edges.
Steps
- For each AI asset, choose 'Label this asset as created or edited with AI' in Google Ads.
- Check your target locations; if they include the EU, India or New York, preview the ad with the overlay in mind.
- Leave a clear margin around the middle band of the frame for your own text.
- Keep an internal record of the clip, the job id and the label status.
- Spot-check the live ad's three-dot menu to see the disclosure.
Caveat
Google's page says the label setting does not guarantee compliance with any regulation, and tells advertisers to take legal guidance. It also says Google may label some assets on its own, and those labels cannot be overwritten.
