Google Ads AI label setting: a label inside the video
Google now allows an AI label inside AI video ad creatives without tripping text-overlay policy. Burn your own label line as the last step with Sume.

Google's policy page says text or visual labels may now sit directly inside AI-generated or AI-modified image and video ad creatives, and those labels are exempt from the rules that normally ban text overlays and watermarks. If you want that label inside the video file, Sume can burn a line of your own wording onto a finished clip with a caption job that uses authored cues.
The Google facts are from its Ads policy page, read 2026-09-30. The Sume facts are from Video captions, Video trim and Timeline 1.0. This is not legal advice, and Sume's docs do not describe any built-in AI label or provenance mark.
What did Google change?
The page lists who and where it applies. Read the scope before assuming it covers your account.
| Item | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Label placement | Added by the advertiser or applied by Google's AI tools, inside the creative |
| Text-overlay and watermark policies | Labels are exempt |
| Jurisdictions | European Union, India, New York |
| Ad types | Image and video ads with AI-generated or AI-modified assets |
| Rollout | Gradually through July 2026 across Google Ads, Display & Video 360, Campaign Manager 360, Merchant Center, Ads Editor |
| Compliance | The setting "doesn't guarantee compliance with specific regulations" |
How do I put a label line into a Sume video?
Send the finished clip's media.sume.com URL to POST /v1/video-captions with cues. Each cue has text, start and end in seconds, and the docs say this path "burns exactly that copy at those times" without speech-to-text. The wording is yours, so the label says whatever you decided it should say. Pick a style from the docs list (for example punch).
const res = await fetch("https://api.sume.com/v1/video-captions", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
Authorization: "Bearer " + process.env.SUME_API_KEY,
"Content-Type": "application/json",
"Idempotency-Key": "ai-label-ad-001",
},
body: JSON.stringify({
video_url: "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/example/final.mp4",
style: "punch",
cues: [{ text: "AI-generated video", start: 0, end: 3 }],
}),
});
console.log(res.status, await res.json());Where does the label step go in the pipeline?
Last. Video trim re-encodes frame-accurately by default, so a label burned before a trim can be cut or shifted. Cut and join first (see cut product video into feed cutdowns), then caption the final file. Cue start and end are limited to 0–60 seconds in the OpenAPI schema, and a standalone caption job is documented at $0.20 for videos up to 60 seconds.
If you want the label as a held card instead, Timeline takes a slot with video[].duration of at least 0.2 s, and edge fades (output.fade_in_seconds / fade_out_seconds) are limited to 0–5 s; keep them short so they do not cover the card. Check the result frame by frame before upload.
Does this make my ad compliant?
No claim of that kind is made here. Google says its own setting does not guarantee compliance, and a burned-in line is only text you wrote. Check your jurisdiction's rules and Google's page. For what Sume does and does not add to a file, see does Sume add C2PA or a watermark.
