Google Ads AI disclosure labels: add your own, away from the edges
Google says you can add your own AI label to an ad asset, keep it off the edges, and opt out of enhancements that crop it. Set margins with Sume compose.

Google's help page says you can apply your own AI label to an ad asset with your own design tools, and that such labels won't violate its policies on text overlays and watermarks. Its tips: keep the label out of the very corners and edges, and opt out of image enhancements, which can crop it. Sume's Timeline compose can place a label image with a set position and edge margin; it does not touch Google's AI label setting.
Google facts are from the Ads Editor help page; compose behavior from Timeline compose. Both read 2026-09-30. This is not legal advice.
What does Google say about labels on ads?
Regulations in the European Union, India and New York require ads with certain AI-generated or edited assets to carry disclosures. For campaigns that target those places, assets you designate as AI created or edited will also include visible overlays on the ad. The page adds that using the label setting does not guarantee compliance, and recommends seeking legal guidance.
Google may also label assets itself in some cases, and those labels cannot be overwritten. Your own label is an addition under your control.
How do compose settings map to the tips?
Compose with operation: "overlay" puts one Sume-hosted still, such as your label, on one Sume-hosted video. The values below keep it off the edge.
| Google tip | Compose key | Range in the docs |
|---|---|---|
| Not in the very corners or edges | margin_ratio | 0 to 0.45 of height, default 0.05 |
| Choose where it sits | position | top, center or bottom |
| How wide the label plate is | width_ratio | 0.05 to 1 of width, default 0.9; plate keeps aspect |
What about a text label instead of an image?
Video captions can burn authored overlay copy: pass cues with text, start and end and it skips speech recognition. That suits a text label on a clip with no speech. Compose's public rate is $0.02 per job; confirm in GET /v1/catalog.
What can still crop my label?
Rendering formats vary, and Google says it cannot fully guarantee that a label will not be trimmed. Its advice is to opt out of image enhancements: Asset Enhancements in Display and Performance Max campaigns, and Adaptive Layouts in Demand Gen. That setting is in Google Ads, not in Sume. Specs for the placements are in YouTube Shorts ads specs; for a general overlay, see add a logo or watermark to a video.
