Pay-later badge over a holiday clip: Timeline compose overlay
Yes: Sume Timeline compose overlay puts a still badge on a video in one flat-credit job. Adobe forecasts $21.3B of holiday pay-later spend.

Yes. Sume's Timeline compose overlay operation lays one still image over one video for the full length of the clip, so a pay-later badge or an offer plate can sit on a holiday product video without a re-render of the video itself. Adobe forecasts $21.3 billion of buy-now-pay-later spending this holiday season, $807 million on Black Friday and $1.09 billion on Cyber Monday, as reported by Digital Commerce 360 (read 2026-10-13).
Only add the badge if your checkout really offers the plan. The wording on the plate is a claim about financing, so keep to the exact terms your payment provider gives you, and have the plate approved by whoever owns that relationship.
Overlay settings
Both inputs must already be on media.sume.com, so import the badge PNG and the clip through POST /v1/media-imports first. Idempotency-Key is required. The output length is the video's length; the still never makes it longer.
| Key | Allowed values | Default |
|---|---|---|
position | top, center, bottom | not stated in the doc table |
width_ratio | 0.05 to 1 of the frame width | 0.9 |
margin_ratio | 0 to 0.45 of the frame height | 0.05 |
video_fit | cover, contain, stretch | server default |
The call
A small plate at the bottom, 40% of the width, looks like a badge and not a banner. Credits are flat per job, and there is no model inference, only ffmpeg on a worker; read the amount on the API rate card.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/timeline-1.0/compose \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: bnpl-badge-clip-001" \
-d '{
"operation": "overlay",
"image": { "url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/pay-later-badge.png" },
"video": { "url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/holiday-clip.mp4" },
"layout": { "position": "bottom", "width_ratio": 0.4, "margin_ratio": 0.08 },
"output": { "width": 720, "height": 1280 }
}'Then poll the job
There is no GET for the compose itself. Poll GET /v1/jobs/{id}/status and read GET /v1/jobs/{id}/result for video_url and duration_seconds. The compose output uses the audio of your clip; a mute clip only warns.
Keep the plate a separate file. When the offer changes, you re-run only the compose, not the video generation, so a Cyber Monday change costs one flat job and not a new render.
- Check the plate against the Friday and Monday terms separately.
- Do not place the badge over the price caption.
- Keep the 9:16 master; Adobe puts mobile at 57.4% of the season (read 2026-10-13).
