Where do Reels ads show?

Meta's Reels ads page names three places: the Reels tab, Reels in Explore, and the Reels in-feed unit. It says ads do not run on Audio pages. It also recommends Advantage+ placements, which span Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Audience Network, and says that for manual placement you should select six or more. I read the page on 2026-10-03.

What does that mean for the files I make?

A Reels placement implies a vertical, full-screen video. The same page says 9:16 video ads with audio and safe-zone messaging see higher delivery. So the base asset is a 9:16 clip with sound and nothing important in the safe-zone margins. A placement set that includes Feed or Marketplace adds square or 4:5 versions.

How do I make each version with Sume?

Start with a 9:16 master. Sume's timeline render defaults to 1080x1920 MP4, which matches the common vertical delivery size. For other ratios, use video trim with precision: "exact" and an output object, for example 1080x1350 for 4:5, and use the filter endpoint's crop op first if the framing needs to move. Each trim is $0.02.

Keep the audio. Meta's page says audio is on by default in Reels, so a silent export wastes the format.

  • 9:16 master: 1080x1920.
  • 4:5 cut: 1080x1350.
  • 1:1 cut: 1080x1080.

How many placements should I select?

Meta recommends Advantage+ placements. If you go manual, the page says to select six or more. More placements means more formats to prepare, so decide the number first and then the file list. A short, fixed list of three renders is easier to check than an open-ended set.
