Walmart Sponsored Videos: 15-minute upload URL, wait for AVAILABLE

Walmart's Sponsored Videos API gives an upload URL that expires in 15 minutes and needs about 30 minutes to process. How to stage a Sume clip for it safely.

Walmart's developer docs for Sponsored Videos say the upload URL expires in 15 minutes, processing takes about 30 minutes, and the video's status must be AVAILABLE before a campaign can use it. If your clip comes from Sume, stage the file first so the 15-minute window is spent on the upload alone. Sume returns a hosted MP4 URL when a job finishes, which you download and then send to Walmart.

What the Walmart docs say

The values below are from Walmart's developer pages. The pages also say brand-portal registration is required, accept MP4 or MOV and list captions as .srt or .vtt as optional but recommended.

Stage the file first

Download the finished MP4 from the Sume job result to your own server before you request an upload URL. Then request the URL and push the file at once, because a slow download inside the 15-minute window is the likeliest cause of an expired URL.

Check the clip first. The video inspect endpoint returns probe facts and stills for a Sume-hosted clip, so you can confirm duration, dimensions and container before you spend a Walmart upload on a bad file. After the upload, poll Walmart's status until it shows AVAILABLE, and do not attach the video to a campaign before then.

  • Download, probe, then request the upload URL.
  • Poll status after upload; roughly 30 minutes is normal per the docs.
  • Keep a sidecar caption file if you want one, and a burned-in version for sound-off.

Limits

I did not verify other Walmart specs here, such as length or resolution, so read them on Walmart's pages. Sume has no Walmart integration and does not upload to Walmart. A burned-in caption from Sume is part of the picture, while Walmart's .srt or .vtt option is a separate file.
