Walmart Sponsored Videos run 5 to 45 seconds: cut yours to length

Walmart Connect says Sponsored Videos run between five and 45 seconds. How to trim a finished product video to that window with Sume's video-trim endpoint.

Walmart Connect's Sponsored Videos page says the videos run between five and 45 seconds. If your holiday product video is longer, or shorter, the quickest fix is to cut it. POST /v1/video-trim returns a new file starting at a chosen second for a chosen duration, at $0.02 per job, and the source must already be a media.sume.com URL.

What does Walmart actually say?

The page, read on 2026-10-01, is short.

How do I trim a video to fit?

First import the video with POST /v1/media-imports if it is not already on media.sume.com. The trim endpoint takes video_url, start and duration in seconds. The source can be up to 1800 s and the output up to 900 s, so a 45-second ceiling is well inside what it accepts.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-trim \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: walmart-cut-001" \
  -d '{
    "video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/talk.mp4",
    "start": 2,
    "duration": 30
  }'

Which length should I pick?

Walmart gives a range, not a recommendation. Pick by what the clip has to do: a 15-second version carries one benefit and a call to action, while 30 to 45 seconds fits a short demo. The trim result returns duration_seconds and actual_start_seconds, so log both and confirm the file lands inside five to 45 before you upload.

How do I cut a whole catalog to length?

Trim is one job per file, and it accepts an Idempotency-Key, so a script can loop over a list of clips and safely retry a failed submit without paying twice. Collect each result's duration_seconds and flag anything below five or above 45 before upload; that check is two lines in any language and avoids a rejected asset in a Q4 week when review queues run long.

If the source is a long hero film, take two or three windows from it with different start values rather than one long cut. Each output is a new file, never the source, so the original stays untouched and you can re-cut it later.

What are the limits?

  • The page does not list the other technical specs, so confirm them in your Walmart Connect account before you export.
  • Trim cuts; it does not reframe. If the clip is 16:9 and the placement wants another ratio, that is a separate render.
  • Only media.sume.com URLs are accepted as the source.
  • If you need to add a hold on the last frame to reach five seconds, use the timeline render, where a still is a static hold; it is reserved at $0.10 per output minute, rounded up, and captured at the render's own compute cost, never above the reservation.
