TikTok bans AI-generated endorsements: avatar demo or testimonial?
A brand-agency summary reports TikTok prohibits AI-generated endorsements. How to tell an avatar product demo from a testimonial before you write the script.
Write the avatar script as a demo, not as someone's experience. Darkroom, a brand agency, reports that TikTok prohibits AI-generated endorsements and impersonation deepfakes (read 2026-10-02; an agency summary, not TikTok's page). A talking avatar saying "I used this for a month and my skin cleared" is a first-person endorsement from a person who does not exist. A voice that explains what the product does is not.
What separates a demo from a testimonial?
The agency page does not define either word, so use the plain reading: does the script claim a lived experience, a result, or an opinion on behalf of a customer? If so, it is shaped like an endorsement.
| Line | Shape | Safer? |
|---|---|---|
| Here is what the strap clips onto, in three steps | Demo | Yes |
| It holds a 2 liter bottle | Product fact you can verify | Yes |
| I have used it every day for a year | Testimonial | No |
| My customers love it | Endorsement claim | No |
How do you write a demo script for Avatar 1.0?
Avatar videos takes either a script or ordered video_inputs. Use video_inputs for a hook, a demo beat and a call to action; a voice.type of silence gives a non-speaking beat while the product is on screen. Total duration must land between 4 and 60 seconds.
Who decides if a script counts?
You do, and then TikTok does. Sume's docs describe what the API accepts, not whether a script is an endorsement under TikTok's rules. If a script borders on a testimonial, rewrite it as a product fact, or use real footage of a real customer who agreed to appear.
Add the disclosure the platform asks for when the clip is commercial. A separate post covers the 24-hour window the same source reports.
What if you want a testimonial?
Use a real customer who agreed to be on camera, and film or collect their clip. Sume can then help around it: trim the clip, burn captions, or assemble it with other shots in a timeline. The testimonial itself should come from the person, not from a generated face reading words for them.
