Shopify product video formats MP4, MOV, WEBM: what Sume returns

Shopify.dev lists MP4, MOV and WEBM for product videos. Sume Timeline, video filter and video trim return an MP4, which is one of the three formats listed.

Shopify's product media page lists MP4, MOV and WEBM for product videos, up to 1 GB, 10 minutes and 3840x2160. Sume's Timeline 1.0, video filter and video trim endpoints return an MP4, so MP4 is the format to plan around; no docs page lists MOV or WEBM output.

Which formats does Shopify accept?

Can I crop a product video for a product page?

Yes. POST /v1/video-filter takes one media.sume.com clip and a crop op with fractional x, y, width and height, and returns a new MP4 at $0.02 per encode job (confirm live in GET /v1/catalog). The check route is free.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-filter \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: pdp-crop-001" \
  -d '{
    "video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/product.mp4",
    "ops": [{ "op": "crop", "x": 0, "y": 0, "width": 1, "height": 0.75 }]
  }'

What if I need MOV or WEBM?

Nothing in the Sume docs produces them, so convert outside Sume, or use MP4, which Shopify lists.

What should I verify?

The Timeline and video filter docs do not state a codec, so open the file in the Shopify admin preview before you publish. The limits above come from Shopify's page and may change.
