Runway API Veo 3.1: 40 credits a second with audio, 20 without

Runway's API prices Veo 3.1 at 20 credits a second silent and 40 with audio, at $0.01 a credit. An 8-second example, and what audio costs on Sume.

Runway's developer pricing lists Veo 3.1 at 20 credits per second without audio and 40 credits per second with audio, and credits cost $0.01 each (Runway pricing, read 2026-10-09). That is $0.20 versus $0.40 a second, so sound doubles the price. Omni on Sume always includes audio, with no separate rate.

What does an 8-second clip cost on Runway?

For comparison, Google's own list shows Veo 3.1 Standard at $0.40 a second at 720p and 1080p (Google pricing, read 2026-10-09), so Runway's audio-on row matches that figure.

Runway Veo 3.1 at $0.01 per credit (read 2026-10-09)
OptionCredits per secondPer second8 seconds
Veo 3.1, no audio20$0.20$1.60
Veo 3.1, with audio40$0.40$3.20

Where does Sume put sound?

Sume does not list a Veo id (catalog read 2026-10-09). Its Omni row, gemini-omni-flash-1.1, generates audio on every clip, and it has no audio toggle. The 8-second price is therefore one number per resolution:

Omni on Sume, 8 seconds, audio included
ResolutionPer second8 seconds
360p$0.0375$0.30
720p$0.125$1.00
1080p$0.1875$1.50
4K$0.375$3.00

What if you need it silent?

Run the clip through video trim with audio: "drop". The docs set the public rate at $0.02 per job, and the exact precision re-encode keeps the picture frame-accurate. You pay for the sound inside the Omni price, then remove it, so a silent Omni clip costs the Omni rate plus $0.02.

Which should you pick?

If you need Veo's look and only a silent plate, Runway's 20-credit row is half of Google's Standard rate listed above (Google also lists cheaper Fast and Lite tiers, which this post does not compare). If you want sound and four resolutions in one call, Omni at $0.125 a second for 720p undercuts Runway's $0.40.
