To reskin a finished ad for a new product, put the old ad first in input_references and the new product shots after it, then ask ideogram/ideogram-v4.5 to replace the product and keep the layout, copy and background. One reskin is one edit: $0.0375 at low, $0.075 at medium and $0.275 at high on Sume.

On Sume, the first image in an Ideogram 4.5 edit is the picture that gets changed, and up to four more are references, five in all. That ordering is the whole technique: the ad is image one, the new product is image two, and the prompt says which is which.

How should I order the references?

Order is the instruction, so write the prompt to match it. The model edits the first image; the rest are references to draw from. With one product, that is two images; with a product shown from three angles, four. The fifth slot is for a logo or label if the packaging text matters.

Reference slots for an Ideogram 4.5 reskin on Sume, from the Image API docs, read 2026-10-05.

What does the prompt say?

Name the images by position and say what stays. Example: "Edit image 1. Replace the sneaker in image 1 with the product shown in images 2 and 3. Keep the headline, the layout, the background and the lighting of image 1 unchanged." Because an edit without aspect_ratio keeps the source geometry, as the Image API docs state, the new ad has the same frame as the old one and slots into the same placement.

If the new product has different proportions, expect to look at the shadow and the hand or surface it sits on, which are the places an edit has to invent pixels. A tighter prompt that names those places gives the model less to guess.

What does a campaign of reskins cost?

Ideogram 4.5's list prices are $0.03, $0.06 and $0.22 by quality, billed at list x 1.25, and the price does not change with the number of references or the size.

Reskin cost at Sume list x 1.25; docs read 2026-10-05.

low$0.0375$0.45$1.875
medium$0.075$0.90$3.75

When is five references not enough?

If you need to show more than four reference images in one call, a different model fits better. Seedream 4.5 takes up to 10 references at $0.05 per image, and Seedream's product replacement post covers it. Reference limits by model lists the rest. Ideogram launched 4.5 on 2026-09-30 as "the most precise edit model" (Ideogram on X, read 2026-10-05), and that is the case for using it when copy and layout must survive; only your own ads can show whether it does.

How do I run a campaign of 50?

Each ad is its own call with its own Idempotency-Key, such as reskin-ad07-v1. Fan them out in waves sized to your plan: Pro processes 4 at once and queues 20 (24 accepted) per generation admission, so 50 ads go as three waves, not one burst, or you will see 429 queue_full. Review at 100 percent: copy, logo and the new product's label first.

What should I do about the headline?

If the headline names the old product, change it in the same prompt: quote the old words, give the new ones, and say the typeface, size and position must stay. Putting both changes in one call saves a pass, but if the headline fails you re-run the product swap as well. When the copy is long, run the product swap first and the headline second, as two edits, and check each one.

Two calls at low cost $0.075 on Sume, the same as one at medium, and give you a result you can inspect between the steps.
