Repost TikTok to Shorts: what a Sume rebuild chain costs

A TikTok or Reel you own, rebuilt as a Short with new voice, music bed and captions: six Sume calls priced at about $0.61 in total.

The Shorts news this month is a repost path: HeyOrca reported (read 2026-10-07) that YouTube partnered with Repurpose.io so TikTok and Reels posts can be sent to Shorts. A straight repost keeps whatever is baked into the file. If you want a Short with its own voice, its own music bed and captions in your style, you rebuild it, and the rebuild has a price you can add up.

This post prices that rebuild with Sume calls for a clip you own. It does not replace a repost tool. It is the alternative when the original's audio or burned-in text is wrong for YouTube.

The six calls and what they bill

Each price below is the billable figure in the repo's estimators, read 2026-10-07. Sume media tools only accept media.sume.com URLs, so every outside file goes through a media import first.

Two limits to plan around

Media import takes public TikTok and Instagram URLs only. A YouTube URL is rejected with unsupported_platform, so you cannot pull a Short back out this way. The import record also carries a has_watermark field and a watermarked_source_only warning. If the only copy you can fetch carries a platform watermark, export the original from your own camera roll instead of trying to hide the mark. Sume does not offer watermark removal.

Use only footage you own or have rights to. The chain makes a different file; it does not change who owns the idea.

  • Skip STT when you already have the script: saves $0.01.
  • Skip captions when the format shows none: saves $0.20.
  • Run Timeline plan first. It is an unbilled preflight.
