Premiere 26.5 Generative Media Tool vs a video generation API
Premiere 26.5 adds a Generative Media Tool for video and sound effects. Sume's POST /v1/videos is the scriptable route, with frame_images for image-to-video.

Premiere 26.5, released 2026-09-10, adds a Generative Media Tool that creates video and sound effects from text inside the editor, using Firefly and partner models. If your question is "how do I generate video from text outside Premiere, in a script?", the Sume answer is POST /v1/videos, an asynchronous route shaped like OpenRouter's video API. It returns a job you poll, so a batch of clips can run without anyone at a timeline.
What the editor feature and the API each give you
Adobe's post describes the tool as part of the editing app. You prompt inside Premiere and the result lands in your project. An API route has the opposite trade: nothing lands in a project, but you can call it from a queue, a webhook handler or a spreadsheet loop. Sume's route takes frame_images with first_frame and last_frame roles for image-to-video, input_references, generate_audio and a callback_url. List the available models with GET /v1/videos/models rather than assuming one.
| Question | Premiere 26.5 Generative Media Tool | Sume POST /v1/videos |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Inside the Premiere editor | Any HTTP client |
| Inputs named in the docs | Text prompts | Prompt, frame_images, input_references |
| Sound | Sound effects from text | generate_audio flag on models that support it |
| Result | Media in the project | A job with a result artifact URL |
| Model choice | Firefly and partner models | Models listed by GET /v1/videos/models |
Putting generated clips on a timeline
A generated clip is rarely the final cut. Sume's Timeline 1.0 render takes one audio spine and 1 to 200 video[] slots, with transitions such as fade and dissolve and a fit mode of cover, contain, stretch or blur. The default output is a 1080x1920 MP4. Render is priced at $0.10 per output minute, rounded up, and a /plan call checks the layout without billing. Confirm rates in GET /v1/catalog.
Honest limits
- Adobe's post does not list which partner models the tool uses or its limits; this post does not compare quality.
- Sume has no in-editor panel for Premiere. The comparison is about workflow, not feature parity.
- Model coverage and per-model duration limits vary; read them from the live model list, not from this post.
