To turn three phone clips from a pop-up holiday market stall into one video, import the clips, trim each to its best 8 seconds with Sume POST /v1/video-trim, and join the three trims in one POST /v1/timeline-1.0/render with a voiceover or music file as the audio spine. Three trims at $0.02 and one timeline minute at $0.10 come to $0.16.

The prices and fields come from Video trim and Timeline 1.0 (read 2026-10-06). Both need the clip on media.sume.com, so the first step is POST /v1/media-imports, covered in Media inputs.

How much does each step cost?

A 24-second video is one billable timeline minute, because the render bills ceil of the output minutes.

How do I trim each clip?

Send start and duration for the moment you want: the stall sign, a customer holding a product, the wrapped gift. The default precision of exact re-encodes frame-accurately, and the result is a new MP4, since the source is not touched.

curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-trim \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: stall-clip-1-trim" \
  -d '{
    "video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/stall-1.mp4",
    "start": 4,
    "duration": 8,
    "output": { "width": 1080, "height": 1920, "fps": 30 }
  }'

How do I join the three trims?

Read each trim's video_url from GET /v1/jobs/:id/result, and use it as a source_url in slots at 0, 8, and 16 seconds. Set audio.duration_seconds to 24 and add a short fade after the first slot.

  • The output block on the trim conforms every clip to 1080 by 1920 at 30, so the three clips join without a rate mismatch.
  • Timeline sound comes from the audio spine, so give it a voiceover or a music file. Clip audio is not mixed in.
  • Run a free POST /v1/timeline-1.0/plan first to see billable_minutes before you spend.
