Pinterest video Pin vs video ad: 5 minute or 15 minute limit?
A Pinterest Video Pin runs 4 seconds to 5 minutes. A Pinterest video ad runs 4 seconds to 15 minutes, up to 2 GB, with 6 to 15 seconds recommended.

On Pinterest's help pages, an organic Video Pin can be 4 seconds to 5 minutes, while a paid video ad can be 4 seconds to 15 minutes and up to 2 GB. Both accept H.264 or H.265, but the container lists differ between the two pages.
Side by side
Both limits come from two separate Pinterest help articles, so a file that satisfies one can still fail the other.
| Field | Video Pin | Video ad |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 4 seconds to 5 minutes | 4 seconds to 15 minutes (6 to 15 s recommended) |
| Containers | MP4/M4V web; MP4/MOV/M4V mobile | MP4, MOV, M4V |
| Codec | H.264 or H.265 | H.264 or H.265 |
| File size | Not stated on the Pin page as read | Up to 2 GB |
| Recommended frame | 9:16, 1080x1920 | Square or vertical advised |
Producing the shorter cut
The ad page recommends 6 to 15 seconds, far below the ceiling. A common job is cutting a two-minute Pin down for an ad. Use video trim with start and exactly one of end or duration. Trim accepts 0.2 to 900 seconds of output from a source up to 1800 seconds.
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/video-trim \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: pin-ad-cut-001" \
-d '{"video_url":"https://media.sume.com/artifacts/artf_demo/pin.mp4","start":12,"duration":12}'Keep the codec Pinterest accepts
With precision: exact, the default, trim re-encodes to libx264 yuv420p. With keyframe, it copies streams and cuts on a keyframe, so the start can drift and the codec stays whatever the source was. If the source is something unusual, use the default.
Sume refuses codec, crf and ffmpeg fields on trim (ffmpeg_fields_rejected), so you cannot choose H.265 there. For a pre-publish check, probe the result with video inspect and read the length yourself.
