Pinterest's Pin specs page sets a 100-character title, a 250-character textbox and an 800-character description. These fields hold the words Pinterest can index; text burned into the video is only pixels. Put search terms in the fields and use burned-in lines for a short hook.

The limits

Pinterest ad titles use a different rule: 100 characters, with only the first 40 showing (30 for double-byte characters), on the ads product specs page.

Check before you publish

A script is quicker than counting. This one reports each field's length against its limit and runs as written.

LIMITS = {"title": 100, "textbox": 250, "description": 800}
pin = {
    "title": "Build a floating shelf in 3 steps",
    "textbox": "Measure, drill, mount. Tools list inside.",
    "description": "A beginner floating shelf from one pine board.",
}
for field, limit in LIMITS.items():
    n = len(pin[field])
    print(("OK " if n <= limit else "OVER"), field, n, "/", limit)

The words on the video

Keep burned-in text to a few words inside the safe zone. With video captions, authored cues skip transcription; two or three short lines per Pin are enough. The searchable detail, materials and steps belong in the description.

Use video inspect with transcribe: true ($0.01 per audio minute) to get a transcript you can paste as a first draft of the description, then rewrite it.
