Pinterest see fewer AI Pins: what the toggle means for creators

Pinterest lets users turn down GenAI Pins by topic or with a Show AI content toggle. What Pinterest says it does, and how to plan AI Pins with Sume.

Pinterest users can now see fewer GenAI Pins, and that applies to your AI Pins. Pinterest's help page says users can use the Show AI content toggle, and that turning it off turns all AI topics off, or switch individual topics on or off under Manage AI content by topic. Pinterest's newsroom post announced the tuner on October 16, 2025 for image Pins that are "generated or modified using GenAI" (read 2026-10-03).

Pinterest does not say how much reach a Pin loses when a viewer turns this off, and the newsroom post I read gives creators no guidance. The practical plan is to label accurately, which the platform detects anyway, and to treat the topics on the list as places where AI Pins now compete for a narrower audience.

What does the control do, and where?

Pinterest describes three entry points and one carve-out, all aimed at viewers, not publishers.

From Pinterest Help and the Pinterest Newsroom, read 2026-10-03.

Which topics are involved?

At launch the newsroom listed architecture, art, beauty, entertainment, men's, women's and children's fashion, health, home decor and sport. Pinterest added food and drink on December 12, 2025. If your AI Pins sit in those topics, expect the control to matter most there; the help page does not say the list is final.

What can a creator do with Sume?

Nothing in Sume hides an AI Pin from the tuner, and starting from your own product photo does not change that: the label covers images generated or modified with GenAI. The levers you have are honest labeling and a creative mix. How Pinterest detects the label and how to challenge it is covered in Pinterest's AI modified label, and the API field is in Pin ai_disclosures.

For the mix, the Image API takes text prompts and optional reference images, so you can produce several candidates per Pin idea and keep the ones that read as your brand. For a viewer-side comparison, TikTok tests a similar topic control, described in Can viewers see less AI video on TikTok?.
