Pinterest catalog image_link: 1000x1500 minimum, video_link 2 GB

Pinterest's catalog needs image_link at 1000x1500 or more; each additional_image_link becomes its own Pin and video_link takes MP4, MOV or M4V up to 2 GB.

In a Pinterest retail catalog, image_link must be at least 1000 x 1500 pixels, additional_image_link accepts up to 10 more images of 75 x 75 or larger, and video_link takes an MP4, MOV or M4V file of 2 GB or less. Pinterest creates a new Pin for every additional image link, and if a product has both a still and a video, it promotes the video in the shopping ad.

These limits come from Pinterest's Get started with retail catalogs page and Create shopping ads, both read on 2026-10-03. This post covers the media columns only; the AI-disclosure columns are in Pinterest catalog ai_disclosures.

What are the catalog media fields and limits?

Three columns carry creative. All values must be URLs starting with http:// or https://, and image URLs must be reachable by Pinterest's user agent.

  • Pinterest says to enclose image URLs in quotes and to encode or remove commas inside a URL.
  • If you change an image later, use a different link, or the image will not update.
  • The alt text column takes comma-separated values, and the number of values should match the number of images in image_link.

ColumnRequiredLimit
image_linkYesAt least 1000 x 1500 px; 2,000 characters max; no template or placeholder images
additional_image_linkNoUp to 10 images, each at least 75 x 75 px, 2,000 characters each; comma-separated inside quotes
video_linkNoHosted link; .mp4, .mov or .m4v; 2 GB max; 2,000 characters max

Why does additional_image_link multiply my Pins?

The help page is explicit: "We'll create a new pin for every additional image link." That makes the column a creative lever and a clutter risk. Ten extra images per product across a large catalog is a lot of Pins, so use it for angles that carry a real reason to exist, such as a detail shot or an in-use shot, not for ten crops of one render.

For shopping ads, Pinterest describes video shopping ads, personalized collections ads and carousel shopping ads that feature multiple images and videos. Use the video_link field when preparing the data source for a video shopping ad campaign, and the page suggests adding the word video to the product group name so the video groups are easy to pick.

How do I make catalog-ready images and clips with Sume?

The 1000 x 1500 minimum is a 2:3 portrait. Sume's Image API lists 2:3 among its aspect ratios, and a model only accepts what its supported_parameters advertise, so pick a model that lists it. Check whether the model lists a higher resolution tier in supported_parameters, then check the delivered pixel count before you add the URL: the docs describe tiers and ratios, not a guaranteed 1000 x 1500 file.

For video_link, the Sume Video Generation catalog lists 9:16 and 3:4 as supported aspect ratios for seedance-2, with 4 to 15 second clips at up to 1080p. Pinterest's catalog page does not state a ratio or length for video_link, so confirm the format you want against Pinterest's current ad specs before bulk-producing. Keep the file under 2 GB and in MP4, MOV or M4V; check the container of what you download rather than assuming it.

import os, requests
H = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['SUME_API_KEY']}"}
models = requests.get("https://api.sume.com/v1/images/models", headers=H).json()["data"]
ok = [m["id"] for m in models
      if "2:3" in m["supported_parameters"].get("aspect_ratio", {}).get("values", [])]
assert ok, "no catalog model lists 2:3"
r = requests.post("https://api.sume.com/v1/images",
    headers={**H, "Content-Type": "application/json"},
    json={"model": ok[0], "aspect_ratio": "2:3",
          "prompt": "Ceramic mug on a linen cloth, window light, no text"})
print(r.status_code, r.json().get("data"))

A short pre-flight list

Run this before you upload the feed: every image_link is 1000 x 1500 or larger and not a placeholder; every extra image is one you want as its own Pin; every video_link is a hosted MP4, MOV or M4V under 2 GB; and every changed asset has a new URL. If any asset is AI-generated, the catalog has disclosure columns of its own, covered in the post linked above.
