LinkedIn newsletter logo 300x300 and cover 1920x1080

LinkedIn recommends a 300x300 newsletter logo and a 1920x1080 cover per article. 1080 is not a multiple of 16, so ask Sume for 1920x1088 and trim 4 px.

LinkedIn's newsletter best-practices page recommends a 300x300 logo for the newsletter and a 1920x1080 cover photo for each article. Sume's GPT image sizes need multiples of 16 on both edges, and 1080 divided by 16 is 67.5, so 1920x1080 cannot be requested directly. Ask for 1920x1088 and trim 4 pixels from the top and bottom.

What LinkedIn says

The page was last updated three years ago when read today, and it gives recommended sizes only, with no stated file-size cap or minimums. So treat the numbers as guidance, not as a validator.

Legal sizes to request

1920x1088 has both edges as multiples of 16 (120 and 68 times 16), a ratio of 1.76 under the 3:1 cap, and 2,088,960 pixels, inside the 655,360 to 8,294,400 window. The logo can come from a 1024x1024 request and be scaled down.

Trim and scale

import asyncio
from PIL import Image, ImageOps

async def main():
    cover = Image.open("cover-1920x1088.png").convert("RGB")
    cover = cover.crop((0, 4, 1920, 1084))  # trim 4 px top and bottom
    assert cover.size == (1920, 1080)
    cover.save("newsletter-cover.jpg", "JPEG", quality=92, optimize=True)
    logo = Image.open("logo-1024.png").convert("RGB")
    ImageOps.fit(logo, (300, 300), Image.LANCZOS).save("newsletter-logo.png")

asyncio.run(main())

Editorial advice

LinkedIn also suggests avoiding clipart and generic stock images and says images with faces and people tend to resonate with audiences. That is their editorial advice, not a measured result I can quote. A 1920x1080 image is the same 16:9 shape as a blog featured image, so the 1536x864 versus 1920x1080 sizing note applies here too.

Checklist

  • Request 1920x1088, never 1920x1080.
  • Keep the final at exactly 1920x1080.
  • Make the logo legible at 300x300 before you generate it.
