LinkedIn Page link post image: 1200x627, over 200 px wide

For a LinkedIn Page post with a URL, use a 1.91:1 image at 1200x627 and more than 200 px wide, or it shows as a left thumbnail. Request 1280x672 from Sume.

When you add a custom image to a LinkedIn Page post that carries a URL, LinkedIn asks for a 1.91:1 ratio, which is 1200x627 pixels, and a width over 200 pixels. If the width is under 200 pixels the image appears as a small thumbnail on the left of the post. A 1280x672 request to Sume, fitted down to 1200x627, meets all three conditions.

The rules on the page

These rules apply to a post with a URL. LinkedIn says they do not apply when you post an image only, or an image with text, because that image is enlarged to fit the feed.

Which size to request

1200 divided by 627 is 1.9139, close to 1.91. Sume's GPT custom sizes need multiples of 16, and 627 is not one. The nearest clean request is 1280x672 (80 and 42 times 16, 860,160 pixels), which is 1.9048.

Scaling 1280 by 0.9375 gives 1200. Doing the same to 672 gives 630, so the fit trims 3 pixels of height to reach 627.

Fit it

import asyncio
from PIL import Image, ImageOps

async def main():
    img = Image.open("link-1280x672.png").convert("RGB")
    out = ImageOps.fit(img, (1200, 627), Image.LANCZOS)
    out.save("link-post.jpg", "JPEG", quality=92, optimize=True)
    assert out.width > 200  # under 200 px wide becomes a left thumbnail
    print(out.size, round(out.width / out.height, 4))

asyncio.run(main())

When to break the rule

Because mobile shows other ratios in full with white padding, a 1:1 or 4:5 image is not cropped there, but it is not 1.91:1 either. Choose 1.91:1 when you want the card to fill its slot, and keep the subject away from the edges in case another surface crops it.

Checks

  • Final file is 1200x627.
  • Width is well above 200 pixels.
  • Keep the request and job id with the file so you can regenerate the same shape.
