Image API price shapes: per image vs per megapixel, Oct 2026
Five image models, three price shapes on fal: flat per image, per megapixel, and first-megapixel plus extras. A dated cheat sheet and how to check Sume.
Image prices come in three shapes on fal's pages: flat per image (Seedream 5.0 Lite at $0.035, Recraft V4 at $0.04), per megapixel (Qwen Image Edit Plus at $0.03), and first megapixel plus extras (FLUX.2 pro at $0.03 then $0.015). Sume bills what its endpoint pricing lists, so check the shape before you budget a batch.
Sources are FLUX.2 pro, Qwen Image Edit Plus, Seedream 5.0 Lite and Recraft V4, all read 2026-10-03.
The cheat sheet
Prices are fal's, for the endpoints named.
| Model | Shape | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| FLUX.2 pro | First megapixel plus extras | $0.03, then $0.015 per extra MP |
| Qwen Image Edit Plus | Per megapixel | $0.03 per MP |
| Seedream 5.0 Lite | Flat per image | $0.035 |
| Recraft V4 | Flat per image | $0.04 |
Check Sume
Print the lines for any row; the unit field shows the shape.
import os
import requests
key = os.environ["SUME_API_KEY"]
url = "https://api.sume.com/v1/images/models/recraft/recraft-v4/endpoints"
resp = requests.get(url, headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {key}"}, timeout=30)
resp.raise_for_status()
body = resp.json()
body = body.get("data", body)
for endpoint in body["endpoints"]:
for line in endpoint["pricing"]:
print(endpoint["provider_slug"], line["billable"], line["unit"], line["cost_usd"])
Limits
Prices change and fal's differ from Sume's. Do the arithmetic with a real call's usage.cost.
