Hippo Video $5 per creation vs a Sume 20-second avatar clip at $4.90
Hippo Video lists a $5 per creation pay-as-you-go text-to-video price. A 20-second Plus avatar clip on Sume is $4.90, and 27 seconds on Standard is $4.97.
The short answer
Hippo Video's pricing page lists pay-as-you-go text-to-video at $5 per creation. On Sume, $5 buys a 20-second Plus avatar clip ($4.90) or a 27-second Standard clip (27 x $0.184 = $4.97). A creation and a clip are not the same thing, so the table below compares price per piece, with the vendor's own wording as source: Hippo Video pricing (read 2026-10-04).
What Hippo lists
Hippo splits two products. Video messaging lists a Free plan with 50 automated personalized videos, Pro at $20 a month billed annually with 100, Teams at $60 with 300, and Enterprise at $80 (10-seat minimum) with 500. Text-to-video lists Free with 3 downloads, pay-as-you-go at $5 per creation, Starter at $24 with 10 downloads and Creator at $69 with 30.
| Product and plan | Price | Allowance | Price per unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Messaging Pro | $20 a month | 100 videos | $0.20 |
| Messaging Teams | $60 a month | 300 videos | $0.20 |
| Text-to-video Starter | $24 a month | 10 downloads | $2.40 |
| Text-to-video Creator | $69 a month | 30 downloads | $2.30 |
| Text-to-video pay as you go | $5 | 1 creation | $5.00 |
The Sume equivalent
Sume does not have a creation count. A clip costs its seconds times the tier rate. At the default Plus tier that is $0.245 per second, so $5 covers 20.4 seconds and a 20-second clip is $4.90. The Standard tier is $0.184, giving 27.17 seconds for $5. Duration is estimated from the script and has to be between 4 and 60 seconds.
Messaging versus generation
Hippo's automated personalized videos are priced at $0.20 each on Pro and Teams, and $0.16 on Enterprise ($80 / 500), because they personalize an existing recording. A fresh avatar render on Sume is a different unit. For 100 recipients with a 4-second Standard greeting, Sume totals 100 x $0.736 = $73.60 against $20 for Hippo Pro's 100 videos. If your message is mostly fixed with a name inserted, the messaging product is the cheaper fit. If every script is different, per-second generation is the honest model.
How to choose
A per-download allowance rewards many short exports. A per-second price rewards short scripts. For a single 20-second talking-head ad, $4.90 on Sume and $5 at Hippo's pay-as-you-go are close, so the deciding factors are the avatar (Sume creates one from a prompt, a profile or a photo for $0.95) and whether you need the render from code. Sume's own plan limits sit in the batch queue post, and the full price ladder covers other lengths.
