Merchant Center video link aspect ratio: 9:16, 16:9, 1:1
Merchant Center video_link accepts only 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1, so a 4:5 clip is out. Sume Timeline and Video trim can output a size that fits one of the three.

Google's video_link page lists three aspect ratios: 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1. A 4:5 social ad is not on the list. To conform a clip, re-render it at an output size with one of those ratios, for example 1080x1920, 1920x1080 or 1080x1080, using Sume Timeline or Video trim.
Ratios are from Google's Help page; output limits from Sume's Timeline 1.0 and Video trim docs, read 2026-09-30.
Which sizes satisfy the three ratios?
Sume's output width and height are even integers from 256 to 2160, so each of these sizes is expressible. Merchant also asks for at least 720p, which the sizes below meet on their short side only if it is 720 or more.
| Ratio | Example size | In Sume's range? |
|---|---|---|
| 9:16 | 1080 x 1920 | Yes |
| 16:9 | 1920 x 1080 | Yes |
| 1:1 | 1080 x 1080 | Yes |
| 4:5 | 1080 x 1350 | In range, but not on Google's list |
How do I conform with Timeline?
Timeline's default output is 1080x1920 MP4, which is 9:16. Set output.width and output.height for the other two. Each video[].fit is cover (the default), contain, stretch or blur: cover crops to fill and contain keeps the whole frame. Pick contain when you cannot afford to crop the product; the docs list stretch and blur as the other values without describing them, so test them before relying on either.
How do I conform with Video trim?
Video trim takes an optional output of { width, height, fps }, with width and height 256 to 2160 and fps of 24, 25, 30 or 60. It works only with precision: "exact". Sending output with precision: "keyframe" is refused with video_trim_output_requires_exact.
What should I do about a 4:5 source?
Re-cut it to 1:1 or 9:16 before submitting, and decide per clip whether cropping or a blurred fill looks right. See 4:5 versus 9:16 by platform for the ad-side view.
