Google Play preview video length: the first 30 seconds
Play Console says only the first 30 seconds of a preview video autoplays. Trim a lead 30-second cut, and review its opening stills, with Sume.

Play Console help says only the first 30 seconds of a preview video autoplays, so that is the part to design. Sume can cut a 30-second lead version with Video trim and pull stills from the opening to review it, but it does not upload to YouTube, which is how Play takes the video.
Google figures are from its Play Console help page; Sume facts from the Video trim and Video frames docs, read 2026-09-30.
What does Play Console say about preview videos?
| Item | Play Console help says |
|---|---|
| How to add | One preview video, by entering a YouTube URL |
| Autoplay | Only the first 30 seconds |
| Content | At least 80% representative of the user experience, showing actual app or game functionality in the first 10 seconds |
| YouTube setup | Video URL, not a playlist or channel; public or unlisted; not age-restricted; ads disabled |
How do I make a 30-second lead cut?
Call POST /v1/video-trim with start 0 and duration 30 on a Sume-hosted clip. duration accepts 0.2 to 900 seconds, and the result is a new MP4 artifact; the source is untouched. The docs give a public rate of $0.02 per job. Use the cut to check what autoplay will show; your full video is what you publish on YouTube.
How do I review the first 10 seconds?
Video frames takes 1 to 24 explicit times in at[], each at least 0, and returns durable image artifacts. Ask for [0, 2, 4, 6, 8] and check that real app functionality is on screen. Video inspect samples 8 mid-bin stills across a whole clip if you want a quick overview first. See extract video frames with the API.
How does the video get onto Google Play?
Sume returns a durable media.sume.com HTTPS URL. You still upload the finished file to YouTube yourself and paste that YouTube URL in Play Console.
