Google's Business Profile tips ask for at least 3 exterior photos, 3 interior, 3 product, 3 of food and drink where relevant, 3 team photos, and at least 1 per common area; hotels add 3 room photos. Google's requirements page says photos should be in focus and well lit with no significant alterations or excessive filters, so shoot real ones. A folder-count script catches the gaps.

Both lists are from Google's help pages, read on 2026-10-02: photo tips and requirements.

What is the minimum set?

Google's tips read as a shot list.

Can AI make any of these?

Google asks for photos with no significant alterations, so exterior, interior, team and product shots should be real. Where Sume helps is the surrounding content: a short video, a post graphic, a seasonal banner. A video from your own photos or a clean promo card from the Image API can sit on your site or social pages while the profile gallery stays true.

Count your folder

Keep one subfolder per category and run this script to list what is missing against the minimums above.

from pathlib import Path

need = {"exterior": 3, "interior": 3, "product": 3,
        "food-drink": 3, "team": 3}
root = Path("photos")
for name, minimum in need.items():
    n = sum(1 for p in (root / name).glob("*")
            if p.suffix.lower() in {".jpg", ".jpeg", ".png"})
    flag = "ok" if n >= minimum else f"missing {minimum - n}"
    print(f"{name}: {n} ({flag})")
