Google Business Profile photo size: 720 × 720 px, JPG or PNG

Google recommends Business Profile photos at 720 × 720 px, at least 250 × 250 px, JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB. What that means for cover, logo and posts.

Google recommends Business Profile photos at 720 px tall and 720 px wide, with a minimum of 250 × 250 px, saved as JPG or PNG and between 10 KB and 5 MB. That one rule set covers the photos you add; Google's help pages name no separate pixel size for the cover photo, the logo, or the image in a post.

Google's rules are quoted from three Google Business Profile Help pages: Manage your Business Profile photos & videos, Tips for business-specific photos and Create & manage posts. The upscale request comes from the OpenAPI document behind the Sume API reference, and polling from Jobs and results. All were read on 2026-09-29.

What size should Google Business Profile photos be?

Google lists these standards and says photos look best on Google when they meet them:

  • Google states a height and a width for the recommendation, 720 each, and names no aspect ratio.
  • Photos show on Google only after the profile is verified, and Google says it can take up to 24–48 hours before they appear.
  • For video rules and ideas, see Can you add videos to Google Business Profile?.

What size is the Google Business Profile cover photo and logo?

Google lists the logo and the cover photo as types of photo and gives no separate dimensions for either, so the same JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB, 720 × 720 px recommendation applies. Two things Google does say:

  • In some instances, setting a cover photo doesn't guarantee it shows as the first image for your business, and a user-submitted photo may be picked instead if yours is low quality.
  • If the logo doesn't appear, check that the profile has a name, a valid street address, categories, a phone number and opening hours.

What size is a Google Business Profile post image?

Google's posts help page names no image size. Updates, offers and events can each carry a photo or a video, and the photo rules above are the only size guidance Google gives. Google's tips for posts also say to avoid auto-generated or distracting content.

Can I use AI to make my photos bigger?

Yes, to enlarge a real photo, not to invent one. Google's quality line asks for no significant alterations or excessive use of filters or AI, so that the image represents reality: storefront, interior, product and team photos should be what customers will find. An upscale enlarges a photo you already have, but it is still an AI step, so compare the result with the original and keep it only if it still shows the place as it is. Sume's Image Upscale 1.0 takes the photo's public HTTPS URL and an upscale_factor from 1 to 4, default 2. The factor is 720 ÷ the shorter edge:

  • Send it to POST /v1/image-upscale-1.0/upscale. The job runs async by default: poll GET /v1/jobs/{id}/status until it's terminal, then read GET /v1/jobs/{id}/result.
  • output_format defaults to png; ask for jpg and check the file stays under Google's 5 MB.
  • The request has no target-size or crop field, so the factor is the only size control; a photo that isn't square won't come out at exactly 720 × 720. Upscale an image to an exact size covers the math.
  • API pricing lists Image upscale at $0.20 per image, plus a 5.5% agent fee by default.
Factors are 720 ÷ the shorter edge, rounded up to two decimals; the 1 to 4 range is from the Sume API reference, read 2026-09-29.

What can't an upscale fix?

  • Focus and light. Google asks for photos that are in focus and well lit; a blurry or dark photo is still blurry or dark when it's bigger, so retake it.
  • A shorter edge under 180 px needs more than 4× to reach 720 px; start from a larger original.
  • The image must be at a public HTTPS URL; the request takes a URL, not file bytes.
